This position requires a strong understanding of operating principles of rotating equipment and other mechanical equipment and systems used in water treatment plants, pumping plants, hydroelectric plants and water distribution systems; determining asset condition and reliability, performing necessary calculations to assess their performance and providing guidance in business decision making to repair or replace these assets.
This position's responsibilities include detailed analysis of equipment/systems maintenance, operational problems, development and testing of improved processes and practices to improve equipment and/or system reliability and refinement of operational and maintenance criteria for new projects. This position is also responsible for assisting senior engineering staff within the team in the planning, development and deployment of industry best practices in maintenance management and reliability engineering; development of innovative techniques to diagnose impending equipment problems, with an emphasis on rotating equipment and flow measurement devices and systems. This position also requires the candidate to be familiar with principles of predictive maintenance tools such as: vibration monitoring, oil analysis, and other diagnostic technologies used to track the condition of equipment.
The successful candidate may lead engineering efforts in analyzing flow meter uncertainties at various service connections by performing complex flow meter accuracy investigations, preparing a test plan, conducting the field test, analyzing test results, and providing a final report with findings and recommendations. Will also assist in development of equipment maintenance policies and procedures to assist maintenance staff in optimizing maintenance.

EMPLOYMENT STANDARDS MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Education and Experience: Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in a related field and four years of relevant experience, of which two years must have been at the Assistant Engineer II level; or Master’s degree from an accredited college or university in a related field and two years of relevant experience which must have been at the Assistant Engineer II level.
Related field of study is defined as: Mechanical Engineering
Relevant Experience is defined as: general engineering work experience of which two years’ experience must be within any two of the following fields: Flow meter selection and application; Fluid system design, application or analysis; Machine Design; Pump, Turbine or valve (greater than 24”) design and/or manufacturing; Commissioning of rotating equipment and systems (greater than 500hp); Stress Analysis; Treatment Plant System design; Reliability Engineering; and Maintenance Engineering and maintenance management.
CERTIFICATIONS, LICENSES, AND REGISTRATION REQUIREMENTS • Valid California Class C Driver License or equivalent (required at time of application) • Engineer in Training (EIT)
