Job Description

Under the direction of the Supervising Special Investigator I, the incumbent acts as a technical expert and investigator for the Occupational Licensing Program. Duties include but are not limited to conducting field investigations, interviews or interrogations, taking statements, gathering and analyzing evidence, writing an investigative report that can be submitted to the District Attorney for criminal action or other administrative action by the Department. Additionally, conduct licensee place of business inspections and/or audits, serve search warrants, issue subpoenas as required and manage case files. This is a peace officer position that works with various law enforcement agencies, industry, licensees and consumers in resolving a variety of complaints through the enforcement of state and federal statues and Department regulations governing the Occupational Licensing Program.


Minimum Peace Officer Requirements In compliance with POST regulations 1950-1955

  • Reading and Writing Ability Assessment
  • Oral Interview
  • Formal Background Investigation includes but not limited to:
  • Criminal Background and Live Scan
  • Driving Record
  • Education-minimum high school graduate
  • Employment History, including Military
  • Reference Checks
  • Financial History
  • Medical Evaluation and Psychological Evaluation
  • US Citizenship or permanent resident alien who has eligibility and has applied
  • Minimum Age of 18


  • Felony disqualification: pursuant Government Code Section 1029       

Applications must possess and maintain a valid California Driver’s license as condition of employment and be willing to travel.

Applicants (incumbent) must have satisfactory completed the training requirements of Penal Code 832 or complete the requirement within 12 months of appointment.

Applicants will work from their home office and will cover an assigned area serving Northern California.  Successful candidate must live within 25 miles of assigned territory.

If hired, candidate must attend mandatory training in Sacramento for up to six months.
