Job Duties: Responsible for the planning, directing and supervising of utility plant, building repair, maintenance and grounds departments. Manage environmental improvement projects and programs. Prepare and maintain appropriate records and files. Prepare reports and presentations and related work as required. Work is performed under the general direction of the Assistant Director of Plant Facilities and/or designee. Leadership and supervision is exercised over custodians, head custodian, grounds, utility plant and maintenance personnel. Must be available to work evening and weekends if needed.
Manage the college recycling program and oversee regulatory compliance. Coordinate the Campus Beautification Program with the supervisory groundskeeper. Solicit bids and handle contracts for outside maintenance services. Investigate and implement software programs that will improve efficiency and effectiveness of maintenance and operations. Maintain an indexed file of all building and site drawings that document original specifications and “as built” conditions. Convert drawings to CAD format: maintain and update files to reflect renovations and new construction. Contact vendors and contractors to obtain quotations for equipment or renovations as required. Assist with office planning by interviewing department personnel concerning equipment and furniture needs so that sketches (plans) may be made to show various options of layout. Arrange and coordinate tests of new supplies, materials and equipment, evaluation and reporting potential use and benefit to the maintenance operations. Coordinate with Custodial Services the review of proposed schedules of use for facilities. Assist in the review of codes, regulations, requirements and resolutions imposed on or adopted by the college in the areas of safety and maintenance. Outline plans and programs for compliance and make recommendations as appropriate. Typical areas will include barriers to the physically handicapped, campus lighting, hazardous waste disposal, evacuation and testing of fire alarms, elevator, etc. Assist with the continuation of the Colleges Space Management program. Assist with the coordination of in-house projects by skilled trades (maintenance, utility plant, grounds and housekeeping). Review codes for compliance with local, state and federal regulations. Perform duties as needed to improve quality control and best practices for Housekeeping. Perform other duties as assigned. Must be able to work weekends and evenings if needed.
An earned Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Facilities Management or related field. Minimum three years of experience in a similar facilities management position. Proven computer literacy and CAD proficiency is necessary. Good verbal and written communication skills. Must be able to work independently. Master’s degree may be substituted for one year of experience.
