The Head of Medical will be responsible for leading and representing Biogen Intercontinental Region (BIR) for Biogen's portfolio with a focus on country-specific needs and opportunities for the medical function.Strategic leadershipTogether with VP TA Head NMD Global Medical and VP, Medical BIR define medical strategy for the region and across all NMD portfolio products. Aligns with commercial strategy for and works cross-functionally with key internal and external stakeholders and partner functions to address the unmet medical needs in BIR. Ensure understanding of market dynamics, trends, business priorities in order to adapt strategic approach and communicationsaccordinglySupervise development and implementation of the regional BIR medical plans, partnering with the BIR leadership team across functions to define, establish and execute a coherent strategic plan that addresses patient needsEnsure full alignment with global/regional strategyWork closely with the Global leads for SMA and ALS to ensure input into development and ensure execution of all data generation activities (phase IV studies, Real World Evidence, IITs and SRAs) across the whole portfolio. The BIR NM Medical Director is the key driver for generating the relevant data to advance and drive/inform the clinical practice and support the market access at the regional levelCollaborate with Clinical Development Global Clinical Operations and CCL on early phase trials in pipeline, phase III, and later phase IVPartner and collaborate with value and access team to assist company efforts to show potential medical value of compounds to payers, HCPs and regulatorsFacilitate sharing of best practices and knowledge across products and locations (training internally)Highly focused on building advocacy across the region through KME engagementsTogether with other stakeholders drive integrated ICP process (3M) and ensure timely executionContribute to development and management of access programsExternal liaisonParticipates in high quality KME engagement across the region to ensure access to high quality external expertise and insightsContributes to availability of high value-added continuous medical educational programs across all products and therapeutic areas for external stakeholdersSupervises coordination of medical review of country-specific materials to ensure scientific accuracy when needed and clearly express rationale for any objection and sign-off before releaseProvide guidance to affiliates / partners on pre-launch and launch readinessStakeholder engagements w/ local authorities for registration / reimbursement discussionsInternal liaisonEducate the organization about the region its medical needs, challenges, and opportunitiesAdvocate for the region and provide medical perspective and knowledge to other teams within the regionAttract talent from other parts of the organization, model each of the BIIB elements and foster a culture of high performanceDrive capability building across affiliates and with the partnersModel cross-functional collaboration and alignmentQualificationsMD, PhD (Life Sciences) or PharmD qualificationMin 15+ years of experience within a medical affairs role in Pharmaceutical industry, prior experience in managing emerging markets, alliances and partners preferredAbility to communicate and work in EnglishMinimum of 5 years of experience of working in highly culturally-diverse international environmentDeep knowledge and understanding of disease area, multiple different health care systems/market dynamics, regulations, policies and SOPs, health economic techniques and trendsBroad experience in interaction with health authoritiesDemonstrated strategic approach to implementation of scientific communication programs on disease areas and treatmentsHas demonstrated leadership skills and acquired knowledge and skills/competencies to the degree expected at job levelAdditional InformationThrough cutting-edge science and medicine, Biogen passionately seeks to discover, develop, and deliver to patients worldwide innovative therapies for the treatment of neurodegenerative diseases and autoimmune disorders.
