Production Operator -Laminator (1st Shift)

Summary/Purpose:

This position is responsible for operating production equipment to manufacture plastic lining using established standards and practices.

Essential Job Responsibilities and Duties:

1. Cross train on all equipment within the department and fills in as needed. Lamination, Slitting and Punch Press.
2. Operate a production station as assigned by Production Manager
3. Following standard methods and techniques, processes materials to ensure it meets SQF Food Safety and Quality Codes, product specifications and any special instructional customer specific requirements.
4. Properaly and safety set up production equipment to processing specifications, to meet requirments of production order.
5. Maintains safe operation of production equipment at standard rates.
6. Packages finish product as per standards.
7. Monitors machine performance as per standard, recording houry information on the HBH boards.
8. Observes Processing operation to detect malfunctions or non conformances. Escalates discovered issues per standard.
9. Inspects product for conformance to specifications, visually or using gauges or templates, and adjusts machine to correct errors.
10. Performs “GO or NO GO” and dimensional measurements using a micrometer, caliper, scale as required. Informs Supervisor/Manager and/or QA of non conformances.
11. Removes and segrates recycled and non recycled materials to trash or transfer bins.
12. Completes daily recording of production via LN or other defined means.
13. Maintains all equipment and advises the Manager of repairs when necessary.
14. Participates in shift exchange activities with those of other shifts to insure proper flow of information.
15. Promotes personal and product safety by:

• • Is competant and supports the companies ISO standards for Product Safety 22000 and HACCP.
  • Reports any non conformances or Product Safety risks to immediate supervisor.
  • Actively assesses activities on a constant basis to ensure no unsafe actions or results will occur.
  • Stresses safe working practices as a condition of employment to associates.
  • Assisting in audits of employee behaviors to ensure compliance with safety rules and guidelines, as well as housekeeping audits and surveys.
  • Participating actively on the plant-wide safety team.
  • Ensuring the housekeeping in the immediate and surrounding work area is maintained or improved to the highest level possible.
  • Consistently wears personal protective equipment.

• Participates in safety based training provided by the company or recommended by the company.

1. Ensures Quality of products and processes are maintained by:

• • Is competant and supports the companies ISO standards for Product Quality 15378.

• • Reports any non-conformances or high risk quality problems to immediate supervisor.

• Performing work at a level that ensures quality of this position’s work meets or exceeds internal and customer specifications.
• Identifying and correcting if possible any identified quality issues in the department.
• Participates in Quality based training provided by the company or recommended by the company.

1. Actively participates in the continuous improvement process (CIP) by:
   1. Identifying and addressing any opportunities to reduce cost, improve product/process and/or improve overall operations.
   2. Participating in CIP teams to eliminate problems, streamline operations or other areas as defined by management.
   3. Participating in CIP training and exercises designed to expand the potential for continuous improvement.

Education, Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:

High School graduate, GED certification and/or equivalent experience

Work Experience:

Previous experience with lamination of substrates/plastics is a plus.

Language Skills:

Basic English communication skills.  Ability to understand safety rules and regulations, work orders, operating procedures and training materials.  Ability to understand and follow verbal instructions.

Mathematical Skills:

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.  Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.

Physical Demands:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand; walk; bend; crouch; reach; kneel, crawl, use hands & fingers; talk and hear.  The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 30 pounds, and regularly lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.  Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.  Ambient temperature can be as high as 110 degrees during summer months.

Work Environment:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is exposed to moving mechanical parts, fumes or airborne particles, and vibration.  The noise level in the work environment is usually high.  Must be GMP compliant with gowning and proper attire/uniforms (i.e., head/shoe/beard covers and eye protection) where required.  May be required to wear ear plugs.
