Job Description

FSA, a rapidly growing professional services company delivering highly qualified personnel in support of the government's mission, has an immediate vacancy for a Paralegal II to work in support of the United States Attorney's Office (USAO) Northern District of OK Civil Division. 1. Provides a variety of direct legal support assistance services to AUSA staff. Typical assignments include: * Prepares a variety of substantive legal documents to include various motions, responses, answers and other legal documents. These documents are drafted for review and approval of AUSA staff prior to issue. Upon approval, processes documents and performs necessary follow-up. * Makes a recommendation to the United States Attorney or AUSA on the most appropriate legal action. Researches, analyzes and summarizes relevant legal precedents for applicability to assigned cases, and prepares digest of points of law involved. Utilizes a variety of automated legal research tools as well as public information databases and other automated resources to research case- or program-specific legal matters, and to participate in assigned areas of civil proceedings, such as electronic discovery, maintaining an electronic docket and calendar, updating case tracking databases and compiling data as required. * Compiles, prepares, and summarizes relevant materials for use by attorneys in discovery and in preparation of motions, briefs and other legal documents; summarizes depositions and other transcripts; maintains case files; performs simple legal research; indexes, tracks and controls document discovery (including documents produced and received in discovery); indexes, tracks and exhibits and other materials at depositions and at trial. * Using original and online legal resources verifies citations and statutory references contained in legal documents. Ensures citation are complete and consistent sourced material. * Composes original letters or electronic communications that do not require legal interpretations, but do require a good working knowledge of legal procedures and specialized terminology e.g. transmittal of pleading, requests for extensions of time in certain cases, advises of action taken or developments in cases referred by other federal departments and agencies, and notices to attorneys representing defendants. * Receives, reviews and distributes incoming mail and e-mail. 2. Provides a variety of litigation legal assistance and technical work requiring a specialized knowledge of processes, procedures, and practices to support legal activities. Support assignments of this nature involve the form, content and issues of legal instruments and documents, and the steps and procedures involved in processing, storing, and retrieving legal actions and legal information pertaining to the activities of the USAO. Characteristic assignments of this nature include one or more of the following: * Monitors the progress of pending cases and initiates action to ensure that legal pleadings, forms, reports, correspondence, and other documents are prepared and submitted within established deadlines. Keeps appropriate staff members informed about the current status of cases. May monitor state court, federal district court and bankruptcy dockets. * Performs docketing duties such as opening, updating and closing cases through use of the automated case tracking system. Docketing may include affirmative civil matters, defensive cases, foreclosure matters and bankruptcy claims. * Serves as contact person for assigned cases and provides information and assistance concerning status or relevant procedural issues. Exercises discretion and judgment in determining what information may be provided and to whom. 3. Produces a variety of written electronic documents and materials utilizing a wide range of office software applications Products include complicated tables, graphs and charts which may be incorporated into legal documents or courtroom presentations. Ensures proper format, spelling, punctuation, capitalization, and grammar. 4. Performs other related duties as assigned. A Paralegal II must meet the following qualifications: * Associates' Degree and a Paralegal Certificate preferred. Experience accepted in lieu of education. * 2 - 5 years of experience; trial experience very helpful * Requires excellent written and oral communication skills * Thorough knowledge and hands-on familiarity with a variety of computer applications, including word processing, databases (such as document review and file management systems), spreadsheets, imaging, and hardware systems * Requires basic familiarity with ESI tools and knowledge of ediscovery procedures and resources * Ability to consistently deliver highest quality work under extreme pressure will be very important * Ability to obtain and maintain a Public Trust Security Access This position requires U.S. Citizenship and a 7 (or 10) year minimum background investigation.
