WSP is currently initiating a search for a Load Rating Engineer for our Worcester, Massachusetts office. Our current load rating group has performed work for various agencies throughout New England and the Northeast region. With the diverse talent and experience of our bridge inspection staff ranging from small span to large, complex structures throughout the nation, there is high potential for interesting and challenging projects.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Perform load rating calculations in accordance with AASHTO and local agency standards
Perform repair design calculations and detail repair design drawings
Produce load rating reports documenting the load rating analysis of the bridge
Provide guidance to junior staff in preparing and documenting load ratings from start to finish
Provide quality control of load rating documents
Perform field visits and rating inspections to gather information for as-inspected load ratings

Possess a Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering
A minimum of 5-7 years of experience in bridge inspection, load rating and/or design
Strong familiarity with AASHTOWare BrR Bridge Load Rating software
Competent in using AutoCAD, STAAD, CSi Bridge and/or similar modeling and drafting software
Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills
Physically capable of performing field work related to field visits and/or rating level inspections. This work may include working at heights and in close quarters, carrying ladders and gear, working in adverse weather conditions, etc.
Must successfully complete and pass WSP’s Motor Vehicle screening.
A valid driver's license and a clean driving record.
Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources and conduct and adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures
Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP’s health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies
Hold a PE License or the potential to obtain one in the next year
Familiarity with MassDOT, MBTA, RIDOT, NYSDOT, TBTA, PANY & NJ, and other New England or Northeast transportation agencies is a plus
Current FHWA/NHI Bridge Inspection Training (2-week Bridge Safety Training and/or Refresher courses)
Additional FHWA/NHI Training – Tunnel, Fracture Critical, and Ancillary Structures
