WSP is seeking a motivated Lead Construction Inspector to join our Construction Services Group on projects located in the Southern California Inland Empire area assigned to our San Bernardino, California office.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Read and interpret project plans and specifications
Monitor construction for compliance with project documents
Measure, calculate, and document quantities of installed materials in accordance with client policies and procedures
Inspect road and bridge construction (based on Caltrans Standards)
Review, inspect, and approve traffic control systems, including lane closures, in accordance with Caltrans’ standards and requirements
Perform other duties as assigned

Two (2) years of education equivalent to completion of a curriculum beyond the 12th grade in either (1) engineering which includes courses in trigonometry and algebra or higher, drafting, computer science, and physics, chemistry, or a comparable physical science; or (2) surveying which includes courses in trigonometry and algebra or higher, drafting, surveying, and computer science.
5 years of inspection experience in highway/bridge/public works industry OR 5 years of experience in the highway/public works sector working for a contractor or public agency OR Civil Engineering Degree accredited by ABET and 2 years of experience in the highway/bridge /public works industry (any type of position).
Knowledge of Caltrans Standard Plans, Standard Specifications, and Construction Manual.
Ability to travel to construction sites (local)
Valid California Driver’s License
Consultant Lead Roadway Construction Inspectors shall be in possession of a valid certificate of registration as a civil engineer issued by the California State Board of Registration for Professional Engineers, Land Surveyors, and Geologists.
Principal Roadway Construction Inspectors shall have a documented minimum (6) years of demonstrated experience acceptable to Caltrans in roadway construction Inspection, and shall have a minimum of two (2) of these six (6) years as a lead worker.
Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources and conduct and adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures
Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP’s health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies
Must successfully complete and pass WSP’s Motor Vehicle screening.
Knowledge of Caltrans procedures is desirable
Knowledge and experience with Design Build Delivery Method
Knowledge and experience with Construction Oversight
