General Job Summary:
Case Builders translate rudimentary requests from the Department of Veterans Affairs (the “VA”) for Compensation & Pension (“C&P”) Medical Disability Examinations (“MDEs”) into highly detailed, organized case files that a provider can readily use to evaluate a Veteran’s condition(s). Case Builders streamline the process by allowing providers to evaluate Veterans more efficiently.
Essential Job Functions:
1) Read and comprehend the MDE request (2507) sent by the VA, and process accordingly; 2) Check Veteran’s previous cases for overlapping information and other issues; 3) Draft and submit clarification inquiries to the VA, to better understand the information contained, or resolve any inconsistencies that exist, within the MDE request; 4) Enter data into OMS for providers to be able to utilize during and after the MDE; 5) Ensure providers have the necessary documentation and medical records to properly complete the MDEs; 6) Research medical conditions and new information when necessary; 7) Identify and include all relevant worksheets and diagnostics requested by the VA; 8) Appropriately draft and format questions the VA would like the providers to address; 9) Communicate with other departments to share relevant information when necessary in order to best complete the case; 10) Thoroughly check over work before sending it to the next department; and 11) Assist in peer-reviewing other Case Builders’ work before MDEs are performed.
Additional Duties and Responsibilities:
1) Attend meetings with Case Building team in order to stay up-to-date on important information; 2) Respond promptly and appropriately to messages from supervisors, co-workers, and other departments; and 3) Other duties as assigned.
1) Self-starter and highly analytical; 2) Advanced verbal and interpersonal skills; 3) Advanced written communication skills, to include excellent grammar; 4) Advanced reading and comprehension abilities; 5) Advanced organizational and prioritization skills, with strong ability to meet strict deadlines with minimal supervision; 6) Advanced multi-tasking skills; 7) Intermediate understanding of pertinent medical terminology; 8) Proficient typing skills; and 9) Proficient with Microsoft Word, Microsoft Outlook, Adobe Acrobat, general internet research, and beginner knowledge of Microsoft Excel.
1) Casual office environment, with some exposure to mild noise from office equipment and moderate noise generated by staff members; 2) Frequently utilizes phone, fax machine, computer, printer, and copy machines; 3) Extended hours sometimes required beyond the regular eight hour workday.
