Museum Campus Part-Time Public Safety Communications Officers (Weekend Shifts)

The Office of Public Safety is hiring Part-time Communications Officers willing to work weekend shifts, Saturday and Sunday. Primary assignment at the Sarasota Art Museum; may include Ringling College's main campus, and other shifts.

The Public Safety Communications Officer will provide central management control, oversight and supervision of campus security systems, including dispatch operations of telephones, switchboard, non-emergency and emergency lines; monitor radio traffic including other departments and the police when applicable, fire control systems and alarms, and surveillance cameras located throughout both campuses. The Communications Officer keeps the dispatch and office areas secure at all time; prepares necessary and required reports, including maintaining incident report information and keeping logs and files up to date; provides information services to all walk up traffic and telephone calls; records and secures all lost and found items and follows Public Safety procedures for returning the property to the owner; follows all duty requirements as outlined in the Policy and Procedure manual and any directives given by a supervisor. The successful candidate will have the ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Experience with incident and other types of reporting
  • Computer skills including Microsoft Word and Excel, as well as entering data and sending/receiving e-mail and the ability to type accurate reports
  • Possess or be able to obtain certification in basic First Aid and CPR within 12 months
  • Possess or be able to obtain a Class D security officer license within 12 months
  • Possess or be able to obtain a valid Florida Driver's license
  • Must be able to work a flexible schedule with irregular hours

*This position requires a Criminal and Motor Vehicle Background Check.

Able to, sit, stand or walk for extended periods of time, run when necessary; lift , push, pull up to 50 lbs. with no assistance; and ability to work in adverse weather conditions. Ability to speak and hear sufficiently to communicate clearly and with understanding via landline telephone, cell phone, two-way radio and in person. Must have clear vision in a variety of light settings. Manual dexterity to check locks, doors, windows, etc. Ability to think clearly and quickly under potentially stressful circumstances. Ability to maintain composure and function in emergency situations.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Communications, and/or call center experience
  • Advanced degree or combination of experience and college coursework
  • Knowledge of CCTV
  • Experience working as a dispatcher for a law enforcement or emergency operation
  • Previous experience in college or museum security
