Department:

Manages the planning, development, implementation and administration of personnel programs for all human resources areas, including employment, compensation and benefits, employee relations, equal employment opportunity, training programs and safety. This position is expected to require approximately 20 hours/week.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following.  Other duties may be assigned.

  1. With the management team, drive the development of the appropriate work place culture.
  2. Advises personnel in policy and program matters, making or recommending appropriate decisions.
  3. Recruits and screens qualified personnel with the assistance of supervision and management to meet labor requirements.
  4. Responsible for establishing training programs for hourly and management personnel.
  5. Responds to problems on which employees may seek advice.
  6. Conducts area wage and/or benefit surveys, analyze results and make recommendations to meet overall business needs.
  7. Responsible for the maintenance of all personnel files and related records to meet both company and legal needs.
  8. Responsible for budgets and business planning for department and responsible for establishing and meeting department goals and objectives.
  9. Is instrumental in promoting a safe and fair work place environment.
  10. Monitors job performance review process with management personnel.
  11. Serves as plant administrative and educational resource for federal, state and local laws as they relate to employment, safety and EEO.
  12. Plans and coordinates work, trains and motivates, monitors and evaluates performance of administrative direct reports; counsels, records, and disciplines as necessary.
  13. Serves as plant resource for administration and education regarding all company policies, procedures and benefits; including SQF/HACCP policies.
  14. Shares responsibility with Maintenance Manager to ensure plant compliance with OSHA standards and reporting requirements.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws.  Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

  • A college degree in related field; and ten years of related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Minimum of three years of previous supervisory or management experience required.
  • Must have strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to be responsive and persuasive at all levels of the organization.
  • Must have strong Microsoft Office experience, with particular expertise in Excel
  • Be knowledgeable of general human resource concepts and legal requirements.
  • Ability to exercise good judgment within defined practices and policies.
  • Demonstrate a high level of confidentiality.

LANGUAGE SKILLS

  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common technical journals, financial reports, and legal documents.
  • Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from employees, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community.
  • Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to effectively present information to top management, public groups, and/or employees.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. 
  • Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.

REASONING ABILITY

  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. 
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. 
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form. 
  • Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
