Department: Quality

Following company Safety Philosophy, plans, coordinates, and directs SQF program within the plant location, designed to ensure an effective Quality Management System based on the SQF standard, including; training, document control, self-audits, external audits, action items resulting from findings, & Continuous Improvement of processes to ensure Safe Quality Food service products are supplied to our customers to their satisfaction.  Provides quality education, quality performance measurements and quality improvement directions to Extrusion & Production departments. Develops and maintains policies, procedures and documentation that assure the highest level of quality and customer satisfaction.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following.  Other duties may be assigned.

  1. Is the SQF Practitioner and is responsible to review and implement all requirements of SQF, HACCP programs, and other customer or regulatory required programs and or manuals including; maintenance of records for all quality checks, testing and regulatory compliance. Prepares for and executes customer and other regulatory audits and perform internal audits to drive continuous improvements.
  2. Develop and analyze statistical data and product specifications to determine present standards and establish proposed quality and reliability expectancy of sheet & finished product. Coordinate improvement plan where data shows a need for improvement capability.
  3. Establish standards/procedures and integrate program plans for achieving and maintaining the required level of sheet & product quality, reliability, and functional validity, including ensuring consistent quality of critical incoming production supplies and materials.
  4. Provide in-process and final acceptance criteria for all company sheet & products supporting and maintaining a clear understanding of customer requirements.
  5. Maintain the quality performance measurement systems to promote and implement plant-wide programs for continuous quality improvements. Including a corrective action system aimed at the timely and permanent resolution of all failures and/or non-conformities and utilize data and analysis to validate of corrective action and quality improvement efforts.
  6. Provide personnel training on quality assurance topics in order to improve employee knowledge base throughout the plant.
  7. Promote the plant wide awareness of the Cost of Quality Report and establish its reduction of cost as a principle business objective and a measure of effectiveness for the overall management of quality.
  8. Maintain a personnel structure and staffing level to accomplish the Quality mission in an effective and efficient manner. Interview and recommend applicants for hire as Quality employees.
  9. Implement methods, tools and procedures to test, record and assess quality of sheet and finished goods products. Train Production & Extrusion personnel in the applications, in order to maintain operational quality standards and specifications. 
  10. Plan and coordinate work, train, motivate, monitor and evaluate performance of Quality department employees; ensuring their ability to safely operate testing equipment; coach, record, and discipline as necessary.
  11. Responsible for establishing and meeting department goals and objectives.
  12. Track, analyze, and lead initiatives for quality and customer complaint issues within the plant including supplier issues and internal non-conformances. Maintain continuous communication with all departments to assure production and customer service support needs are addressed in a timely manner.
  13. Provide quality evaluations of new product performance for market surveys, competitor product evaluation, etc., for product marketing.
  14. Ensure and maintain records for all quality checks, testing, and regulatory/compliance.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

Directly supervises 1-5 employees in quality department.  Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws.  Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

B.S./B.A. degree in Engineering, Quality, Manufacturing, Technical Discipline or ten (10) to fifteen (15) years demonstrated experience in Quality Management. Thorough technical understanding of quality measurement techniques and associated equipment. Has command of proper Six Sigma methodology.  Computer skills required for data analysis, multiple graphs, reports and charts.  Good interpersonal, organizational and communication skills. 

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS

SQFI and HACCP Certification, CPR and first-aid Certified, optional Certified Quality Manager, Auditor, Engineer, Technician or Six Sigma Black Belt

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read, analyze, and interprets general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.  Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.  Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, employees, customers, and the general public.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as statistical inference.  Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.  Ability to apply mathematical operations to such tasks as frequency distribution, determination of test reliability and validity, analysis of variance, correlation techniques, sampling theory, and factor analysis.

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.  Ability to define problems collects data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.  Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.  Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
