Come join us and help shape the future!   WSP is currently initiating a search for a Structural Engineer II for our Newark, NJ office. The Newark office of WSP is a multi-discipline full-service office of approximately 75 professionals.  Our Structures Department successfully delivers bridge, retaining wall and other specialty projects for transportation and rail clients in the northeast.  We provide services to NJDOT, NJTPA, PANYNJ, Amtrak, NJ Transit, and other local and private agencies.  If you strive for excellence and are looking for a challenging and rewarding position, join our team!     Job description and responsibilities:
  • This position requires broad-based experience in Structural Engineering with an emphasis on Bridges, including the ability to execute tasks as part of a multi-disciplinary team. The preferred candidate will be a self-motivated, team player with strong interpersonal skills, structural design/analysis skills, knowledge of AASHTO and AREMA standards, software and design policies. 
  • This position requires the ability to work within groups with other members of the structures team, as well as other disciplines within the Newark Office.  He or she may coordinate work with entry-level engineers and CADD designers. 
  • Assignments may include Bridge and Structure Design, Rehabilitation / Repair / Retrofit of Bridges and other structures, Engineering Analysis, Plan Development and Quantity Estimates.  Other duties include Evaluation of Existing Structures including Load Ratings, Assistance in the Preparation of Specifications, Review of Shop Drawings, Preparation of Reports and Participation in Field Work.

  • A Bachelor of Science degree from an accredited college/university in Civil Engineering with a focus in structural engineering. A Master's degree is desirable.
  • A minimum of 3-5 years demonstrated experience in structural design is required 
  • Must be a Professional Engineer (PE) registered in the State of NJ, or have the ability to obtain a NJ PE License within one year. 
  • Have proven technical skills in bridge design/analysis, plan and specification preparation, demonstrated successful deliveries with the aforementioned clients or local projects and possess strong verbal and written communication skills. 
  • Proficiency with structural analysis programs and the use of MicroStation or AutoCAD is essential.
  • Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources and conduct and adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures 
  • Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP’s health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies
