The USAF School of Aerospace Medicine provides Aerospace Medicine Training, Education, and Consultation to Enhance Warfighter Performance and Combat Casualty Care for World Wide Operations in Garrison and War. It is the center for aeromedical education, training, and consultation in direct support of USAF and DOD operations. USAFSAM provides peacetime and contingency support in human performance, clinical and environmental health, expeditionary medical support, and aeromedical evacuation.
THIS POSITION IS CONTINGENT UPON CONTRACT AWARD
The scope of support for this activity is to perform as an instructor of the Basic Leadership Airman Skills Training (BLAST) course. In addition, the scope of support would include performance as an instructor for other USAFSAM formal faculty development courses. Duties of the position include, but are not limited to:
The BLAST Instructor works with the course director, other instructors, and Education Department personnel to provide a multiple iteration course centered on leadership skills with a focus on patient safety and trusted care.
Instruct on several topics essential to operations within the medical treatment facility (ex. Time management, Leadership Engagement).
Assist other instructors during their lessons.
Collaborate and coordinate with other instructors or sections on day to day tasks such as preparing the room for instruction, testing equipment for proper operation, and serve as a student mentor/coach while class is in session.
Instruct in Faculty Development Courses when BLAST course is not in session.
Instructor must maintain subject matter knowledge of course material by receiving an overall rating of “Excellent” on instructor evaluations.
Be able to increase student learning through development of a relevant progressive curriculum, designing effective learning strategies and environments, delivering instruction of high quality, and advising students.
Comply with all institutional, accrediting agency policies and procedures.
Attend and participate in training and meetings as directed by the course director.
Support to Course Director: interact with course director(s) and others, such as course developers, registrar personnel, testing and evaluation personnel, and/or faculty development personnel to ensure the integrity of the BLAST program.
Assist course director(s) by researching and drafting course documents, such as agendas, lesson plans, presentations and other associated administrative documents (i.e.-Mentor Bios/Lesson Syllabus).
Advise course director, assists in responding to and resolving student issues, and elevate program administrative problems.
Provide End of Course (EOC) feedback that shall be utilized for course improvement.
Assist with answering student questions.
Assist with attendance, class roster, completion and/or coordination of course graduation activities.
Assist in development of student resource materials to include locally developed, and externally provided.
When not supporting BLAST, will assist with other mission-related duties as assigned.
Facilitate printing/supply orders, assist in tracking student prerequisites and resolving issues prior to student arrival. Maintain accurate attendance records and call on or follow-up with absent students.
Assist course director with annual course schedule and coordinate with Registrar Division personnel for individual student scheduling, update course schedules as needed.
Assist in the lodging and travel arrangements, security clearances and orders for visiting speakers and other official visitors.
Collaborate with registrar personnel to reserve classroom and testing bays as needed by the course.
May assist with scheduling of mentorship events.
Assist with course orientation activities on day one of training, including network access, issuance of student resource materials, leadership welcome briefings, and tours.
Provide information, support and problem solving for students on a wide range of issues.
Bachelor’s degree and at least 5 years of experience in supporting a formal education program or in a related area.
Management experience to the flight level is required.
Prior instructor experience, experience with Student/Learning Management Systems, experience within the medical field, and experience with trusted care training.
Must possess a working knowledge of AFIs and Air Force Medical Service (AFMS) associated regulatory processes as well as experience with continuous process improvement, patient safety, customer service, building and delivering briefings as well as using IMIT/Learning Management System solutions such as Blackboard/Genius.
Required to graduate a Basic Instructor Course or refresher course if previously an instructor.
Additional training, such as trusted care training, may be required in the job to help meet course(s) objectives. An individual who meets all the requirements, except Basic Instructor Course, will be scheduled to attend the next available course
Excellent interpersonal skills are required.
Excellent writing and verbal communication skills are required.
Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite and able to incorporate programs to include Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook and Word.
Knowledge and understanding of applicable Air Force and professional standards is mandatory.
Knowledge of military and civilian guidelines that govern policy and procedure, successful completion of USAFSAM's and Department's orientation programs is required.
