Come join us and help shape the future!   WSP is currently initiating a search for a Shift Supervisor for our Hawthorne, NY office.   Duties and Responsibilities:  
  • Assist managers in training of staff, oversee and provide training for new staff assigned to TMC operations.  Know the operations and procedures for all TMC ATMS/ITS systems and ensure that operations binders are up-to-date and that personnel are fully trained.
  • Assist in conducting staff performance reviews and evaluations and support corrective actions plans.
  • Alert operators to new memorandums, procedures, policies, guidance and special projects and ensure that operators are trained and proficient and compliant in the new standards.
  • Ensure that personnel are alert and focused and that roadways are monitored on a continuous basis.
  • Convey a professional attitude and work ethic, set positive examples for systems operators and ensure that operators and acting accordingly.
  • Resolve problems and staff complaints (confer with Operations Manager if necessary).
  • Verify that VMS messages are correct ad in conformance with policy and regional expectations.
  • Verify the accuracy and completion of all TMC logs, reports, checklists, documents, and any other operational reports. Organize and verify equipment problem tickets, then forward them to Systems Engineer.
  • Ensure that all construction notifications are up-to-date and logged correctly in 511NY.  Assist personnel in situational awareness of work zone activities and potential conflicts.
  • Assist in creating and implementing a staff schedule, update weekly or when necessary.  Assign Shift Assignments to Systems Operators weekly.  Supervise Systems Operators during shift and ensure staff performance and attendance are within policy and regional expectations.
  • Communicate with police, rescue, media, tow, construction & maintenance contractors and other agencies concerning roadway incidents and/or equipment failures.

  • Associates degree or higher with at least seven (7) years of work experience or equivalent technical training
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Oral and written communication
  • Computer/Software including: MS Office applications, spreadsheets and databases
  • Supervising employees
  • Public, internal and external relations (work well with internal, external and partner groups and individuals)
  • Mentor and train new staff
  • Using roadway maps and have basic knowledge of roadway elements
  • Perform with minimum supervision
  • Able to respond to problem situations 24 hours a day
