Job Description

WellCare Health Plans

    • WellCare Summer 2020 Internship

      12 Weeks from May 18- August 7

      Paid internship that includes knowledge and development in the following areas: managed care industry knowledge, personal and professional development, experiential learning, social activity and exposure to senior leaders during your time as an intern

      Will work on challenging and rewarding assignments to gain hands-on experience. Interns will be responsible for a variety of tasks including day to day activities within assigned department. Assists with various projects and requests from management and other departments.

      Internships available within the following areas:

      • Risk Adjustment: The department works to ensure care and treatment plans are documented by the provider community for all active health conditions for all of WellCare's members. . This role will provide exposure to proper medical record documentation, provider staff and office administration.

      • Quality: The department is responsible for improving star/HPR scores for both Medicare and Medicaid. This team is focused on contributing to those responsibilities through vendor & campaign management, budget management and integrations.

      Compliance:WellCare's Corporate Compliance Program is intended to promote ethical conduct in all aspects of Company operations and to ensure compliance with applicable federal and state laws and regulatory requirements and standards by WellCare and its Associates and business partners. Internships will be within Enterprise Project Management, Integration Management, Internal Audit and Compliance Investigations.
Health Services: Health Services Administration manages Population Health Solutions' strategic medical cost initiatives. The team is responsible for the creation/ideation, initial valuation, implementation of and reporting of initiatives that will improve medical costs.Population Health Solutions: This department is responsible for integrating acquired companies and implementing new business (Growth) for case management, utilization management, appeals, reporting, vendor management and behavioral functional areas.Government Affairs: The Government Affairs and Public Policy Dept. oversee the federal and state government affairs operations for WellCare-in both Medicare and Medicaid product line.Our departments provide tools and resources, review legislation, collaborate with external and internal lobbyists in our markets and federally, write policy papers, and assist in the execution of federal and state government affairs strategy benefiting WellCare.Operations: Operations is the point of contact between WellCare and the people we serve. When prospects sign up to become WellCare members, someone from Operations processes their applications quickly and accurately. When those members call with questions about their benefits, someone from Operations has answers. And when providers treat our members, someone from Operations makes sure they get paid accurately and on time. Within Operations is Enrollment, Customer Service, Member & Provider Communications teams, Payment Integrity, Encounters, Credentialing, Claims, and more.

Essential Functions:

  • Participate on work teams, contribute to projects and initiatives, and perform various tasks as needed by the assigned unit/department.
  • May perform analytical work within the assigned functional area.
  • Perform research and prepare reports on assigned topics and /or projects.
  • May create or update systems or databases for specific department needs.
  • Work with departments and/or vendors to gather information needed for various projects.
  • Present project results to department personnel or management

Candidate Requirements:

  • Have relevant education aligned with the internship.

    Are high-performing students committed to excellence as demonstrated by GPA and work and volunteer experience;Have an ability to meet and/or exceed performance measures for their respective role/responsibility;Demonstrate maturity/professionalism and have strong communications skills (written and verbal); andHave potential to develop into a strong contributor and/or leader within your department and the Company

Candidate Education:

  • Currently enrolled as a junior, senior or graduate student in a college program with course work related to the internship with a minimum 3.0 GPA or Pass ratings.

  • Any health related major including; Pre-Med, Public Health, Health Informatics, Health Sciences, Healthcare Administration
    • Business, Business Administration and Business Analytics,
    • Statistics, Math and Economic
