Job Description


Job Summary




The Aircraft Painter coats surfaces of aircraft with paint, lacquer, epoxy, resin or other material, using brushes, rollers, spray guns and other devices.

Principal Accountabilities
(Typical duties include the following, although specific duties vary by assignment or contract)

  • Removes old paint from aircraft, using liquid paint remover and scraper.


  • Smooth's surfaces with sandpaper and steel wool.


  • Roughens aluminum surfaces with acid solution and steel wool to ensure that paint adheres to surface.


  • Masks and covers portions of surfaces not to be painted.


  • Paints insignia, letters, or numerals on aircraft surface using stencils.


  • When required can use Respiratory Protective Equipment (RPE) for job duties.


  • Will manage all hazardous waste in accordance with all customer requirements


  • Perform other qualified duties as assigned

Knowledge & Skills

  • Must be able to Read, Write and Communicate effectively in English


  • Must be able to type using a standard keyboard to communicate through e-mail and software applications.


  • Knowledge of preparation and painting of aircraft, support equipment, and allied components.


  • Knowledge of military publications, microfilm, and diagrams is mandatory.


  • Knowledge of military and/or company forms required by work requirements.


  • Knowledge of TM 55-1500-345-23, MIL-DTL-53072, GEN-MIM-10-002, and AR 750-59

Experience & Education

  • High school diploma or equivalent. Specialized training courses is desirable.


  • Minimum of (2) two years' work and recent experience in the preparation and painting of ground vehicles, aircraft, support equipment, and allied component surfaces.


  • Will be required to pass a pre-employment OSHA physical.


  • Shall be qualified for paint stripping operations with use of Media Blasting and Chemical Striping processes.

Physical Requirements/Working Environment

  • Must be able to walk and stand on level and/or inclined surfaces for extended periods throughout the day.


  • Must be able to climb stairs, ramps, ladders, and work stands.


  • Must be able to crouch, crawl, grasp or handle objects, use finger dexterity, bend elbow/knee and reach above/below shoulders.


  • May be required to lift heavy objects whose weight may exceed 50 pounds.


  • Will be required to handle dirty parts and lubricants.


  • Will be required to wear proper Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).


  • Must be able to pass a Respirator Physical and Fit Test qualification.


  • May be required to operate power vehicles, machinery, hand tools, ground support equipment, fork lift, etc.


  • Must be able to lift/push/pull minimum of 50 pounds.


  • May work in maintenance shop or outside.


  • Must be able to work in a shop where the environment is drafty, noisy, and dirty.


  • May be exposed to extreme noise from operating equipment.


  • May be exposed to electrical shock hazards or work near moving mechanical parts or vehicles

Travel

  • May be required to travel domestically and internationally on short notice, to austere environments, under harsh living conditions
