Job Summary

The Aircraft Painter prepares the aircraft for paint related operations by performing tasks safely within schedule while meeting quality expectations.

Principal Accountabilities
  • Prime small parts, and various surfaces according to required specifications.
  • Mask, sand, and prepare aircraft for paint application.
  • Apply glazing and sealing compounds in preparation for final painting.
  • Mix paints, primers, etc. according to specifications.
  • Paint assemblies (including metal, fiberglass and composite material), detail parts, and apparatus related to ground support.
  • Strip paint and prepares surfaces as required.
  • Perform miscellaneous paint operations and applies decals.
  • Maintain a neat and orderly work area, supports the company 5S and Lean Initiatives Programs and complies with safety regulations.
  • Perform other duties as requested

Knowledge & Skills
  • Knowledge of preparation and painting of aircraft, support equipment, and allied components.
  • Knowledge of aircraft and/or company forms required by work requirements.
  • Ability to work independently with good decision-making skills.
  • Excellent communication and people skills.
  • Able to prioritize workload to maintain schedules on assigned projects.
  • Basic computer data entry skills required for use of maintenance and logistics databases.
  • Good working knowledge of aircraft painting, FAA regulations, and technical publications.
  • Working knowledge of aircraft safety requirements and how to operate portable firefighting equipment.
  • Ability to read, interpret, and comprehend schematic diagrams, drawings, charts, and technical publications

Experience & Education
  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • Two (2) or more years recent paint experience, automotive or aircraft.
  • Basic knowledge of different paint systems and application process.
  • Experience in applying military tactical paint coatings.
  • A&P License preferred but not required.

Physical Requirements/Working Environment
  • Is required to climb, stand, stoop, bend, stretch, crouch and work in tiring and uncomfortable position.
  • Frequently lifts parts and equipment up to 20 pounds.
  • Occasionally lifts objects up to 50 pounds. Most heavy lifting is accomplished through the use of mechanical devices.

Travel
  • As required by Task Order Performance Work Statement.
