Summary of Position
The Certified Pharmacy Technician performs a wide range of routine and complex pharmaceutical duties in support of pharmacy operations. Assumes a lead role among support staff within the pharmacy. Performs all job functions in compliance with applicable federal, state, local, and company policies and procedures. Must possess Pharmacy Technician Registration, as required by the Massachusetts Pharmacy Board of Registration, as well as National Pharmacy Training Certification.
Works under the direct supervision of the pharmacist.Requests and accepts both new prescriptions and refill authorizations, relieving Pharmacist of prescription intake duties. Enters accurate prescription data into automated pharmacy dispensing system. Assists patients with pick-up of medications, and provides courteous and professional customer service. Processes and records payments accurately. Receives pharmacy supplies from vendors, confirms quantities received, inspects for damaged shipment, and reports discrepancies to supervisor. Stores medications appropriately with proper rotation. Works well with others and collaborates for overall success of department and organization.
Education: Graduate of an approved pharmacy technician program, or equivalent institutional/retail pharmacy experience. Must possess and maintain appropriate pharmacy technician registration as required by Massachusetts Pharmacy Board of Registration without restrictions, as well as National Pharmacy Training Certification. CE credits must be current for the past two years.
Skills and Experience: Must possess working knowledge of pharmacy operations and cash handling experience. Requires knowledge of laws and regulations related to pharmacy practice and patient confidentiality. Excellent attention to detail and strong organizational skills are preferred.Must be team oriented and demonstrate excellent patient service skills, effective verbal and written communication skills, problem-solving abilities, and strong interpersonal skills when interacting with patients and colleagues.Sound judgment with the ability to work and make decisions in a fast-paced environment.Must be at least 18 years of age.Minimum 1 year experience in a retail/institutional pharmacy setting preferred.
