The Cost Accountant position is accountable for the ongoing analysis of process constraints, margin analysis, and tracing costs back to underlying activities. The cost accountant must also construct and monitor those cost-effective data accumulation systems needed to provide an appropriate level of costing information to management.
Construct data accumulation systems for a cost accounting system
Create and review the controls needed for data accumulation and reporting systems
Planning, studying, and collecting data to determine costs of business activity such as material purchases, inventory and labor
Working with production control personnel on development and analysis of cost
Analyzing data collected and recording results
Coordinate & conduct physical inventory counts and monitor cycle counts
Review actual costs for inaccuracies
Validate the cost of goods sold as part of the month-end close
Work with supply chain management to manage inventory
Complete monthly/quarterly/annual Government required inventory reporting
Report on margins by project
Report on periodic variances and their causes, focusing in particular on spending variances
Ability to accurately prepare daily, weekly, monthly, quarterly and annual reports
Support effectiveness of operational performance by providing operations with financial analysis, thorough reporting of plant metrics and KPI's
Assist with quarterly EAC, forecasts and the annual budget
Collaborate with Operations to improve the recording, reporting, measurement, and analysis of operational data to ensure that operational metrics align with financial performance
Analyze plant financial data to quantify cost savings opportunities and to support Operations with implementing cost reduction initiatives in order to improve EBITDA
Improve the effectiveness of ERP system including documentation of procedures, processes, and training plant personnel
Knowledge & Skills
Excellent analysis skills, and the ability to collaborate with a multi-department team.
Helpful to have experience building and manipulating databases.
Ability to work independently with good decision-making skills
Highly proficient in Microsoft Office software including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access, etc.
Prefer PeopleSoft and CostPoint knowledge
Experience & Education
BS degree in Accounting or Finance
Inventory control experience, Company owned & Government Furnished
Four (4) years of cost accounting or job costing experience, preferably in an aircraft depot or modification environment.
Physical Requirements/Working Environment
The cost accountant generally works in an office environment, however, is expected to be highly familiar with all production operations, and to regularly visit all significant company operations.
