Job Summary

The Engineering Manager is responsible for managing and directing the engineering activities of the assigned function or department within the organization.

Principal Accountabilities

(Typical duties include the following, although specific duties vary by assignment or contract)
  • Directs department activities to design new products, modify existing designs, improve production techniques, and develop test procedures
  • Develops and conducts work programs in accordance with company's policies, priorities and budget constraints
  • Develops and communicates business unit's engineering policies and standards, ensuring the technological advancements support the business plans of the company.
  • Prepares, manages and controls the capital budget for the business unit.
  • Supervises the preparation of engineering studies drawings and calculations.
  • Analyzes technology trends, human resource needs, and market demands to plan projects.
  • Confers with management, production, and marketing staff to determine engineering feasibility, cost effectiveness, and customer demand for new and existing products.
  • Forecasts operating costs of department and directs preparation of budget requests.
  • Directs personnel activities of department, such as recruitment, hiring, performance evaluations, and salary adjustments.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Knowledge & Skills
  • Requires extensive technical knowledge in CAD based product design and engineering design methods.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude in order to offer technical direction in all engineering areas.
  • Excellent organizational and interpersonal skills.
  • Project management skills and the ability to prioritize workload of subordinates to align with company initiatives.

Experience & Education
  • Requires a bachelor's degree in an engineering discipline.
  • Masters degree in an engineering or related discipline preferred.
  • Ten (10) plus years of experience in engineering and project management. Prefer three (5) years experience in engineering design.
  • Five (5) or more years' management experience.

Physical Requirements/Working Environment
  • Ability to work under pressure and continuously meet deadlines.
  • Work is in normal office environment.
  • Ability to travel domestically and internationally.
