Job Scope
The Transportation Supervisor is responsible for assisting the Transportation Operations Manager in the overall performance of the transportation department. To include but not limited to supervision of fleet drivers, equipment, third part customers, regulatory compliance, and fleet maintenance. Overall Supervisor role to assist the Transportation Operations Manager in achieving prescribed company objectives in regards to cost control, productivity, customer service and profit.

Day-to-Day

    Safety - In collaboration with Regulatory Affairs, develop and implement a driver safety program, including monthly safety meetings and hazardous material training. Operate within all federal and state government regulations. Provide driver training for lift gate equipment and electric pallet jacks.

    Communications - Interface with warehouse operations and retail management to resolve any problems associated with scheduled deliveries. Interact with warehouse department managers, retail management, corporate staff and vendors to achieve both delivery and back haul goals.

    Scheduling - Work with warehouse operations to develop daily picking/shipping schedules. Direct the scheduling of outgoing shipments to ensure efficient resource utilization and achievement of customer service goals. Notify drivers of scheduled assignments and prepare and maintain driver dispatch records.

    Reporting/Documentation - Assist Transportation Operations Manager with ensuring that all records and reports regarding transportation activity are prepared on a timely basis and effectively maintained. Review operating goals and standards on a daily basis and monitor achievement.

    Availability - Assist the Transportation Operations Manager in providing after hours support for accidents and emergency breakdowns as-needed.

    Equipment - Assist in maintaining accurate files on vehicle use, condition, and maintenance. Ensure tractors and trailers are effectively utilized by developing efficient delivery schedules. Assist in maintaining the inspection program to safeguard the equipment and a maintenance program to keep equipment in effective operating condition. Recommend the appropriate specifications for new equipment. Recommend programs to the Transportation Operations Manager on improving the operations of the fleet.

    Labor Management - Direct the daily operations of the transportation department personnel to achieve prescribed objectives. Apply sound communication and motivational techniques in supervising, counseling, and disciplining subordinates. Maintaining a productive work team by creating programs for hiring, training, and professional development.


  • High school diploma or equivalent; currently working towards college degree
  • Five to seven years of experience in logistics/transportation industry
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, etc.)
