Positions & Duties
The actual salary shall be determined by the final candidate’s qualifications and experience.  As of 10/6/2019, members of the OE#3 bargaining unit will also receive a 3% increase in addition to the salary listed.

Employees are expected to work a five-day per week schedule.

◦The shift here at the Regional Wastewater Facility for our landscape group is a Monday thru Friday - 6:30AM -3:00PM shift.

The Facility Mechanical Maintenance Division is responsible for the maintenance of the facility mechanical infrastructure, facilities maintenance, warehouse services, landscaping, painting, and land management. The Division is organized into three sections: Mechanical Process Maintenance, Special Projects Training Scheduling, and Facilities Maintenance. Staff is located throughout the facility and provides preventive and corrective maintenance, painting of various equipment and infrastructures, stocking and warehousing of parts, landscape management, lands management, as well as emergency repair. The division provides support services for implementation of capital improvement projects, process optimization, and operations. The division also implements public works contracts for repair, equipment replacement, and new construction.

Under general supervision by a Senior Maintenance Worker and Wastewater Maintenance Superintendent, employees in the Maintenance Worker I (MWI) is the journey-level class in the Maintenance Worker classification series responsible for performing the full range of semi-skilled tasks for assigned maintenance operations and programs. Incumbents are expected to work independently and exercise judgment and initiative. Positions at this level receive only occasional instruction or assistance as new or unusual situations arise and are fully aware of the operating procedures and policies of the work unit.

MWI responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:

Landscape: The responsibilities of these positions include performing labor in the planting, cultivating, trimming, removing, watering, and spraying of lawns, plants and other vegetation, Picks-up garbage and litter around the City facilities and auxiliary area, Installs and repairs sprinkler lines and irrigation systems, Performs other related duties as assigned.

Facility Maintenance: Participates in, or performs, a variety of semi-skilled tasks such as cleaning catch basins and plugged sewers; repairing and unplugging sewer laterals, mains and storm drains; repairing and replacing water lines; Cleans and lubricates machinery, engines, and equipment using steam and solvents, works along side facility maintenance crews to performs other related duties as assigned.

These positions require grasping, reaching, bending, pulling, kneeling/crouching/squatting, lifting, and carrying objects up to 100 pounds to complete the described job duties; Standing and walking are performed intermittently.

Minimum Qualifications

1.  Education:  Completion of high school or equivalent (General Educational Development [GED] Test or California Proficiency certificate)

2.   Experience:  One (1) year of experience in the maintenance and repair of streets, sewers, parks and public facilities.

3.  Licenses or Certificates: As a condition of employment in some designated positions, possession of a valid State of California Class A or B driver's license with applicable endorsements may be required.
