Job Responsibilities
This person will work with the Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) Manager to support Viasat's safety, health and environmental programs and initiatives designed to promote an open, honest and continuously improving safety culture. The successful candidate will assist in development, implementation, monitoring and management of safety and environmental programs, policies, and procedures at all Viasat locations. Assists with efforts to ensure Viasat complies with all current local, state, federal and country regulations. Evaluates Viasat's procedures, facilities and equipment to identify unsafe conditions that need improvement. Conducts research and presents information regarding EHS compliance in growing markets. Develops familiarity with standard concepts, practices and procedures related to potentially hazardous operations. Strives to become a proficient trainer in assigned topics. Maintains Safety Management System databases. Some travel may be required.

  • Identify and report safety and environmental hazards, observing all safety requirements and actively striving to provide a safe work environment for employees, contractors and visitors
  • Provide assistance to the Safety Manager in the development, implementation and maintenance of programs to control, eliminate and prevent injury; and to address existing and new requirements from various federal, state and local agencies
  • Conduct research on safety requirements specific to new Viasat ventures or locations
  • Strive to become subject matter expert in areas of value to Viasat
  • Recommend measures to help protect workers from potentially hazardous work methods, processes or materials
  • Provide advice, information and safety training to employees, demonstrating how to identify hazards and properly use safety equipment and/or accident prevention techniques.
  • Assist with safety evaluation of current equipment and those planned for future use
  • Interface with contractors to ensure work is performed in accordance with company standards, policies and procedures
  • Order suspension of activities that pose a threat to worker's health & safety
  • Investigate complaints, injuries, accidents and near misses
  • Participate in noise, ventilation, lighting, radiofrequency, stormwater and other environmental surveys as necessary
  • Participate as a member of Viasat's Emergency Response Team
  • Maintain Safety Management System (SMS) databases
  • Assist with departmental administrative tasks
  • Perform other related duties as assigned
  • Bachelor's degree with a concentration in Environmental, Health & Safety, Emergency Preparedness, or a related field
  • Must possess excellent verbal communication skills
  • Computer skills with proficiency in MS Office (Excel, Word, PPT)
  • May be required to drive company vehicle
  • May be required to lift up to 50 pounds
