JOB SUMMARY Under the supervision of the Operations Supervisor, the Aquatics Services Specialist oversees the facility set-up for daily activity. Responsible for opening and closing of the building, facility tours, customer service, part time staff supervision and facility supervision.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS • Supervises all aspects of the facility • Set-up of facility equipment needed to successfully hold programs and rentals, assists with scheduling conflicts • Video projection and presentation set-up • Provides customer service to patrons, including handling customer conflict and complaints as necessary in a prompt, effective, and courteous manner • Safeguards and regulates conduct of facility patrons; enforces facility policies and procedures • Maintain petty cash/cash till monies used as change for facility registration and front desk • Routinely performs facility duties including front desk closing procedures • Provides the public with clear knowledge of the Aquatic Center and updates staff appropriately • Maintains and monitors fitness room equipment and clientele, daily check of safety and liability issues relating to machines • Compiles aquatic service statistics and records data daily • Assists in the proper sanitary operation of the pool, pool area and locker rooms • Assist with monitoring of patron surveillance and maintain industry-standard safety protocols • Complete daily facility safety checks • Provides written report on all accidents and forwards to manager • Responds to aquatic emergencies as main support team member and coordinates main entrance procedures with rescue personnel • Operates equipment safely and reports any unsafe work condition or practice to supervisor • Ensures pool environment is properly maintained to prevent accidents, reports information as needed to Operations Supervisor • Other duties as required by Supervisor
JOB CONTEXT The Aquatic Services Specialist works up to 25 hours a week depending on assigned shift worked (AM, PM or weekend). Tasks require the ability to exert moderate to heavy physical effort, typically involving some combination of walking, jumping, running, climbing, driving, sitting, and which may involve some lifting and lifting overhead, balancing, carrying, pushing and/or pulling, of objects and materials of moderate to heavy weight (20-100 pounds). Most essential functions are regularly performed without exposure to adverse environmental conditions; however, performance of some essential functions may require exposure to adverse environmental conditions, such as odors, wetness, humidity, fumes, smoke, machinery, vibrations, electric currents, toxic agents, disease, pathogenic substances, or rude/irate customers.
WORK PERFORMANCE The employee is required to follow departmental expectations and adhere to all rules, regulations, policies and procedures in the Town of Christiansburg Personnel Handbook. Work performance is reviewed utilizing the Town’s employee performance review program following the first six month introductory period. During this introductory period, the employee must demonstrate a strong understanding of all that the job requires. Unsatisfactory job performance may result in an extended probationary period or employment termination.
JOB REQUIREMENTS EDUCATION • A High School diploma; supplemented with a minimum of two (2) years of experience in the aquatic recreation field; or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience which meets the requisite knowledge, skills and abilities for this position. LICENSES AND CERTIFICATIONS • Must possess and maintain current American Red Cross CPR, First Aid, Lifeguard Training, AED and Emergency Response certifications, or have the ability to obtain/maintain immediately upon hire • Must have a current, valid Virginia driver’s license with the ability to meet and maintain Town insurability requirements and a minimum of two (2) years driving experience • Certified Pool/Spa Operator or Aquatic Facility Operator certificate preferred, or ability to obtain certification upon hire (within one year of hire date) and maintain KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES KNOWLEDGE • General knowledge of: modern office practices and procedures, including computer applications. Prior working knowledge with recreation software is preferred. • Working knowledge of community recreation as it relates to aquatics, including accepted standards, principles and concepts. • Knowledge of general principles in providing effective customer service. • Knowledge of the philosophy and objectives of public recreation and leisure services. • Thorough knowledge of swimming pool management systems and operation, including sanitation, filtration, purification, and safety. • Considerable knowledge of safety and liability/risk management as it pertains to an aquatic facility. SKILLS • Excellent interpersonal and relationship building skills • Engaging, customer-service focused attitude • Proactive nature with the ability to work independently but also comfortable asking for assistance whenever needed ABILITIES • Ability to work responsibly with latitude for independent judgment to complete daily activities according to schedule • Have ability to follow written and verbal instructions • Ability to follow Christiansburg Aquatic Center and Town of Christiansburg policies and procedures at all time • Ability to maintain professional and courteous relationships with customers at all times (internal and external) • Ability to think clearly, act quickly and apply logic and common sense to problem solving • Communicate clearly, concisely and effectively, both orally and in writing, at the professional level • Develop and maintain productive and cooperative working relationships with those contacted in the course of work at all levels • Ability to work in a fast paced environment • Work all scheduled hours • Walk, jump, run, climb, drive, sit, lift and carry equipment up to 100 lbs., lift overhead and balance equipment up to 40 lbs.
