Job Description

Employment Status: Full-time, "Exempt", Probationary position (with the possibility of converting to permanent).

Work Schedule: Summer office hours (Monday through Thursday from 7:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.); Regular office hours (Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.), with evening and weekend work required to support special events.

Under the direction of the Associate Vice President for Development and the Associate Director of Development (DOD) for Athletics, the incumbent will provide complex and analytical support for the overall growth of the fundraising capacity of the San Bernardino campus, with particular attention on donative activity and special events coordination.

Duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • The team member selected will provide administrative support in order to identify, cultivate and solicit prospective donors for event sponsorships, in-kind gifts, and other donations to benefit initiatives at CSUSB.
  • The team member will work with University Advancement to process all gift transmittals, development forms and documents, development expenses (such as travel, reimbursements, and hospitality), data request reports, and monitor budget expenses and produce spending reports. In addition, this position is fully charged with managing scholarship receipts and communication between recipients and donors throughout the year.
  • The team member will assist in writing donor proposals; manage special event invitations; and generate report documents as requested for Advancement, Development, and CSUSB leadership.
  • The team member will also be responsible for producing donor acknowledgement letters and general correspondence for stewardship support.
  • The team member will provide direct support to all activities of the Development Department of the San Bernardino Campus. These will include managing the details of the annual events, scholarship fundraisers, scholarship recognition events, and donor cultivation activities throughout the year.
  • This team member will also be tasked with all aspects of coordinating and staffing the annual golf tournament, a major fundraising activity at CSUSB.
  • As requested, this team member may coordinate and attend other external and internal meetings, including academic workshops, guest speakers, and community outreach activities.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Education & Experience:

  • A Bachelor's degree or equivalent in a closely related field AND a minimum of three (3) years work experience involving study, analysis, and/or evaluation leading to the development or improvement of administrative policies, procedures, practices or programs, preferably with prior fundraising experience and higher education experience.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Applicants must possess highly effective interpersonal and communications skills for working with business and community leaders, and the campus community.
  • Applicants must possess the ability to plan, organize, manage, direct and supervise others. Applicants must possess the ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with diverse community groups and service providers.
  • Applicants must be proficient in using software such as MS Word, Excel, Access, Outlook, Adobe Acrobat, Reeher, and Advance.

Preferred Qualifications: 

  • Solid knowledge of fundraising-related aspects is highly desired.
  • Experience using Ellucian Advance Windows/Web is preferred.
  • Extensive knowledge of online and printed information sources for fundraising research strongly preferred.
  • Demonstrated high-level skills in conducting comprehensive research and producing prospect analyses and profiles.
  • Proven skills in understanding, analyzing and synthesizing high volumes of information and producing actionable results for gift officers.
  • Demonstrated attention to detail and ability to prioritize and meet frequent deadlines.
  • Must have good writing and communication skills and ability to interact effectively with internal and external audiences.
  • Proficiency in office software including Microsoft Word, Excel and Access.
