Under the general supervision of the Senior Associate Athletic Director & Compliance Coordinator, incumbent will provide lead work direction to staff and tutors, coordinate a program budget, and oversee an academic program for the Athletics Department. Typical responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
The incumbent will provide comprehensive advisement to assist student-athletes to identify their academic challenges, evaluate them realistically, and deal with their aptitudes and abilities as related to their particular needs.
Meet with incoming student-athletes at campus sponsored orientation programs to discuss academic requirements and assist in program development. Attend summer campus orientation planning meeting and programs.
Provide career-related advising on an individual or small group basis to student-athletes.
Develop, establish and maintain a student- athlete tutoring program to ensure success of all student- athletes; specifically targeting at-risk student-athletes. The program will include an inter-department relationship with the Tutoring Center, Math Center and other campus programs to provide qualified tutoring services as needed.
Develop and monitor the study hall schedule for student-athletes and monitor sessions, as needed.
Utilizing advanced human relations skills to work successfully with coaches, student-athletes, and other administrative athletic department personnel to promote the academic achievement of all student-athletes.
Review and analyze existing department policies/procedures. Identify deficiencies, prepare and recommend appropriate modifications necessary for compliance.
Serve on department and campus committees that support the academic success of student athletes.
Perform other duties or projects as assigned by the Director of Athletics.
Education & Experience:
Applicants must possess the equivalent to graduation from a four-year college or university in one of the behavioral sciences, public or business administration or job-related field AND the equivalent of two (2) years of professional experience in a student services program or a related field. A Master's degree in Counseling, Clinical Psychology, Social Work or directly related field may be substituted for one year of experience.
Experience working with Student Athletes preferred.

Applicants must possess a working knowledge of applicable university and federal policy and procedures.
Applicants must demonstrate the ability to gather and analyze data, reason logically, draw valid conclusions and make appropriate recommendations.
Applicants must possess the ability to participate in and contribute to group meetings and establish and maintain cooperative working relationship with students, staff, faculty, and administrators.
Applicants must possess a working knowledge of correct English, grammar, spelling and punctuation.
Applicants must possess a working knowledge of the basic principles of individual and group behavior.
Applicants must possess fundamental writing skills and effective communication skills with the ability to interact with people from diverse backgrounds.
The ability to write, speak and read other languages is desired.
Applicants must have a working knowledge of computer software applications.
A background check (including a criminal records check) must be completed satisfactorily before any candidate can be offered a position with the CSU.
