Job Description




  • GED/High School Diploma
  • Preferred Bachelor's degree.
  • 1 year of work experience.
  • Preferred 2-3 years of demonstrated work experience
  • Preferred Discovery/Customized Employment/Visual Resume coursework
  • Preferred one of the following:
      • Association of People Supporting Employment (APSE)
      • Certified Employment Support Professional (CESP)
      • Certificate received through passing an exam
    • OR
      • ACRE Basic Certificate
    • OR
      • ACRE Basic Employment Certificate in Community Employment with Emphasis on Customized Employment
    • OR
      • ACRE Basic Employment Certificate
    • OR
      • ACRE National Certificate of Achievement in Employment Services

    • Valid and current state Driver's License with an acceptable driving record
    • Proof of automobile insurance; proof of reliable transportation

Merakey is currently seeking Fee for Service Employment Support Specialist to join our Merakey Behavioral Health division in our Bentwood, TN location.

As a member of the Merakey Employment Services team, the Employment Support Professional (ESP) promotes the Employment First philosophy throughout Merakey as well as externally and follows the approach of "work to fade." This position utilizes best practices, technology, and networking in the community to train and assist individuals in obtaining and maintaining competitive integrated employment by meeting the needs of businesses in the community while ensuring alignment with the individuals' interests. The ESP represents Merakey and serves as an ambassador of Employment First. The ESP is a bridge to help others find their purpose, which involves assessing business needs and pairing them with an individual's interests and skills.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following.

  • Assess individual's interests and skills through Discovery and other assessment tools
  • Approach each case with knowledge and understanding of various types of employment opportunities: standard postings, Self-Employment, Job Carving, Job Creation
  • Actively network with the business community/industry representatives and cultivate positive relationships with the community to understand the business needs; develop contacts into relationships and maintain adequate documentation
  • Maintain a mindset of developing and implementing solutions
  • Conduct evaluations of potential places of employment; develop community job leads meeting the supported individuals' interests and needs
  • Teach and positively reinforce skills as deemed necessary for success (i.e. soft skills, time management, transportation, job skills, professional employment communication)
  • Assist individuals in preparing for employment and provide guidance along the way (i.e. Developing a resume, completing a job application, conducting a successful job interview, connecting to resources)
  • Develop effective training for each individual specific to his/her position, including assistance in identifying job modifications/reasonable accommodations
  • Assist individuals newly employed ranging from being on the job to analyzing the position and creating meaningful task lists for the person; identify opportunities for career growth and facilitate the process to assist both supported employee and the employer
  • Provide on-the-job training and coaching to supported employees; provide training and assistance to employers and co-workers to enable them to best support the supported employee
  • Actively develop fading plans, including those when cases are transferred to Job Coach for further follow along; maintain effective communication with Job Coach and follow through on all information received
  • Cultivate a support network for individuals seeking and maintaining employment
  • Ensure the employee/employer relationship is maintained
  • Communicate employee's progress to Supervisor and Support Plan Team (i.e. MLTSS Director, Supports Coordinator, Job Coach) including participation in Support Plan Team meetings
  • Will provide job shadowing for Job Coaches
  • Participate in staff meetings and trainings while serving as an advocate of Employment First at all times
  • Serve as a resource to the business community
  • Maintain proper documentation and abide by all Merakey policies and procedures, as well as state and federal guidelines
  • Other duties as deemed necessary
