Employment Status:  Temporary, Hourly Appointment

Work Schedule: To be determined (Within the hours of 8AM -5PM, Monday - Friday)

Overview: 

The Obershaw DEN is a collaborative initiative to assist CSUSB students who are facing food insecurity. College students who experience food insecurity often struggle to support themselves while working, attending classes, and dealing with other life issues. The Obershaw DEN hopes to support student development and success by minimizing food insecurity while CSUSB students work toward completing their education.

Under direct supervision, the Coordinator of the Obershaw Den will support the Division of Student Affairs Basic Need's initiatives by coordinating the daily operations of The Obershaw DEN. Typical responsibilities include, but not limited to: 

  • Advising DEN students about campus resources and external community programs that aim to resolve food insecurity.
  • Coordinate and inventory the purchase of Den supplies based on need and consumer satisfaction.
  • Develop Den operational procedures, business process guides and surveys.
  • DEN Coordinator position will be responsible for continuing to develop and execute new and already existing programs. Some of the current programs include: the DENation fundraiser, Annual Faculty/Staff Picnic, Holiday Basket program, DHRE Housing Assistance Program, and campus event-based food drives.
  • Incumbent will provide lead work direction to volunteers and student assistants who provide services for the Den or at Den organized/supported events. 
  • DEN Coordinator works with a number of campus partners at CSUSB and in surrounding San Bernardino/Riverside County communities. This position will help maintain these partnerships through on-going communication and appreciation.
  • Den Coordinator will create and/or maintain Den website and social media platforms. 
  • Performs other duties as assigned. 

 Learning Outcomes: The Coordinator position will: 1) increase competency around food insecurity on college and university campuses; 2) develop and implement an advising strategy to address students' food insecurity; 3) assess and develop initiatives centered on holistic success and wellness for college students; 4) strengthen leadership philosophy and practice through various operational responsibilities; and 5) identify and co-create meaningful relationships within CSUSB and surrounding community to ensure collaboration and positive public impact.

Education and Experience: 

Equivalent to graduation from a four-year college or university in one of the behavioral sciences, public or business administration or a job related field. Specialized experience during which the applicant has acquired and successfully applied the knowledge and abilities shown above may be substituted for the required education on a year for year basis.

No student services processional related experience required.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Working knowledge of food insecurity and its impact on student success in college; experience advising underrepresented college students; strong written and verbal communication skills; ability to navigate various social media programs; commitment to working with diverse student populations; team orientation and work with a high level of self-direction and initiative; and proficiency in MS Office suite.
