ASSISTANT DIRECTOR OF INSTITUTIONAL RESEARCH AND EFFECTIVENESS

 As a core member of the data team, the Assistant Director of Institutional Research and Effectiveness (Assistant Director) reports to the Assistant Vice President for Institutional Research and Effectiveness and works with the AVP and others to conduct, manage, and support the accurate and timely collection and dissemination of information across a broad range of reporting, research, and decision-support activities at the College.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Manage the HMC program of teaching evaluations, including working with RPT and other committees to incorporate changes. Provide data and statistics to internal and external audiences. Prepare creative dashboards, reports, and data summaries to inform and assess progress toward College goals. Prepare, publish and present reports to inform policy and assess progress toward College goals. Provide research and evaluation consultation and expertise to various university offices and departments. Work with members of data team to create and update routine reports. Respond to ad hoc requests from across the College, and assist colleagues with the interpretation and implications of the information provided. Monitor data integrity; develop and deliver training for users of reports and analytics, work to develop, update, and enforce data standards, definitions, and reporting practices; support institutional data literacy across the College. Update, automate, and document data and business processes. Other related duties and responsibilities as assigned by the AVP 

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS 

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in social science, computer science, statistics or a related field with coursework in statistics and research methods with at least three years related work experience or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
  • Experience in institutional research/planning, accreditation or assessment
  • Demonstrated ability, experience, and effectiveness working with large-scale relational databases and integrating data from multiple sources.
  • Experience using statistical software (SPSS, R) and other tools (Microsoft Office Suite) appropriate to institutional research.
  • Experience summarizing data using descriptive and inferential statistics
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision and manage multiple priorities

Preferred Qualifications:

  • An advanced degree in social science, computer science, statistics, or a related field with coursework in statistics and research methods.
  • Expertise with a range of quantitative and qualitative research methods
  • Proven ability to produce creative and effective data summaries and visualizations
  • Experience with higher education reporting including IPEDS, CDS, etc.
  • Experience with survey design, administration and software (Qualtrics)
  • Demonstrated experience with student information systems

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Strong data management skills including the ability to analyze, manage, and audit large data sets.
  • Demonstrated organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Effective analytical, quantitative, and communication skills, including the ability to effectively communicate technical information in verbal, written and graphical form to a variety of audiences.
  • Ability and willingness to reevaluate and improve analytical, reporting and survey activities.
  • Demonstrated ability to be tactful, discreet, diplomatic and able to deal with confidential information.
  • Demonstrated commitment to work within a diverse environment and interact openly with individuals of different backgrounds and experiences

Hours:            

The regular hours are 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday – Friday. Hours may vary due to the needs of the department or College. This is an exempt, full-time, benefits-eligible position.
