The role of the Technical Writer, Senior is to provide guidance to junior technical writers and to prepare, review, maintain, and edit documentation. This role is a member of the Technical Writing team and reports directly to the Technical Writing, Manager. CNSI supports a high-volume healthcare data system that is accessed through multiple web portals. This high-volume system operates out of multiple data centers and must reliably be available to its clients 7x24x365.
Functions as an individual contributor and works under little supervision.
Develops documentation from conception through production, leveraging requirements and standards to ensure alignment and consistency.
Creates and follows templates and style guidelines including reviewing published materials and recommending revisions or changes in scope, format, content, and methods of reproduction and binding.
Reviews and edits technical documentation, including but not limited to requirements specifications, design documents, procedure documents, user guides, system administrator guides, online help content.
Interacts with functional teams as required.
Communicates with and obtains information across all functional and technical teams.
Follows standard templates and style guidelines to ensure alignment during the document review and editing process.
Ensures consistent application of standards and document design across all deliverables.
Reviews junior staff work to ensure consistent application of standards, reviews formatting and layout and assists in resolving issues.
Proactively identifies and escalates risks and issues to leadership and assists in developing solutions.
Assists in providing technical and functional knowledge to junior staff members.
Demonstrates strong understanding of the software development life cycle (SDLC) and software testing life cycle (STLC).
Demonstrates proficiency in understanding technical subject matter.
Demonstrates strong understanding of applicable government documentation standards and regulations pertaining to developing, reviewing, and editing documents.
Possesses unwavering commitment to customer service and operational excellence.
Requests and gives both negative and positive feedback.
Provides technical mentoring and guidance to junior Technical Writers, providing guidance as needed.
Bachelor’s Degree or Master’s Degree with 7 – 11 years technical writing experience (Preferred Majors: Technical and Professional Communication, Journalism, Communications, English, or another communication-related field).
Minimum of 3 years working as part of or leading a Quality Assurance team.
Strong understanding of SharePoint applications, WebEx, Skype, etc.
Strong knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, and Visio, with a working knowledge of the rest of the Microsoft Office suite of applications.
Experience researching moderate to highly technical subject matter and communicating findings.
