Work Schedule: Monday through Friday from 7:00 am to 3:30 pm.

Under direction of the Facilities Project Supervisor, performs skilled work in painting and finishing of wood and metal surfaces. Typical duties may include:
Surface scraping, sanding and filling in preparation for painting and refinishing;
Applying undercoats and finish coats with brush or by spray machine;
Mixing and matching paints and finishes;
Performing necessary paper hanging;
Cleaning and maintaining brushes and other equipment;
Painting simple signs;
Advising in the selection, ordering and storing of paint materials;
Consulting with other trades and customers;
Maintaining simple records and providing reports; and
Other duties as assigned.
Methods, materials, tools and equipment used in the painting trade including painting, finishing, drywall, and paperhanging;
Applicable state codes and regulations, including the Safety Orders of the Division of Industrial Safety of the State of California; and
Computer maintenance management software, Microsoft Word, Excel and Microsoft Outlook.
Must be able to apply paints and finishes neatly and accurately;
Mix paints and finishes and match colors;
Erect and work from scaffolds, rigging and ladders;
Select the most appropriate materials;
Read, interpret and work from blueprints, plans, drawings, and specifications;
Make rough sketches;
Estimate cost, time and materials of painting work;
Maintain records and retrieve data using manual and/or computerized record-keeping systems;
Prepare standard reports;
Provide instruction to unskilled and semi-skilled assistants;
Analyze and respond appropriately to emergency situations;
Read and write at a level appropriate to the position; and
Perform arithmetic calculations as required by the position.
Experience: The knowledge and abilities required above normally would be acquired through any combination of progressively responsible training and experience which demonstrates achievement of journey-level skills equivalent to that acquired through completion of a standard painter's apprenticeship program. License/Certificate:Incumbents may be required to possess a California Driver's License valid for the operation of any vehicle or equipment they are required to operate. Physical Requirements:
Must be able to lift, lower, push, and pull loads ranging in weight from 5-60 lbs;
Must be able to carry loads ranging from 20-50 lbs. for distances up to 20 feet; and
Must be capable of kneeling, reaching overhead, climbing stairs and ladders, walking, twisting, stooping, and bending; depending upon the project, employee may spend 20-50% of day sitting, 20-50% of day standing, 20-50% of day walking.
A background check (including a criminal records check) must be completed satisfactorily before any candidate can be offered a position with the CSU.
