As part of our Engineering team, you would analyze data, draft implementation plans for production process optimization. Seeking out ways to maximize efficiencies by eliminating the waste of valuable resources that directly impact our overall operating costs. You are instrumental to the manufacturing of Smithfield, Eckrich, Nathan’s Famous, and our other product brands, to meet the needs of our customers and consumers.


The Facilities Engineer works both as a team member and team leader, leading the facilities engineering discipline for our domestic facilities, interacting with business partners and external resources to understand and develop facility requirements. The Facilities Engineer leverages a combination of experience in facility infrastructure design and knowledge of food manufacturing environments to support and develop technical direction for the domestic facilities and will perform engineering assignments over a wide range of projects of varying complexity. This role will be responsible for developing, implementing and managing facility standards for our existing and future operations.

Job Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering and 10+ years of relevant engineering experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Must possess progressive facilities management experience in design, construction, operations, and maintenance of facilities.
  • Must possess technical expertise in commercial and light industrial HVAC and BAS systems.
  • Must possess knowledge of EPA Refrigerant Management Regulations and phase out schedules
  • Must possess strong knowledge of roofing systems, building envelope systems, and civil engineering disciplines.
  • Must possess strong knowledge of fire protection system design, applications, and functionality.
  • Must possess working knowledge of UBC and NFPA codes and regulations.  
  • Strong working knowledge of electrical supply and distribution systems is preferred.
  • Knowledge of engineering principles and techniques related to food processing and the meat industry, preferred.
  • Ability to apply sound engineering principles to operational and design issues.
  • Knowledge of installation and construction project scheduling.
  • Must possess Project Management skills; Contract Administration skills; National codes and standards interpretation skills. Previous experience in the management of multi-million dollar projects with large scopes, preferred.
  • Proficient in AutoCAD drawing skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel spreadsheet software and Word processing software, other Microsoft Suite products.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, organizational planning, teamwork, analytical reasoning and adaptability.
  • Must be able to travel up to 50% of the time.
  • Ability to work well with others in fast paced, dynamic environment.
  • Ability to be respectful, approachable and team oriented while building strong working relationships and a positive work environment.
