As a postdoctoral fellow in Analytical Enabling Technologies, you will work with a highly collaborative and cross-disciplinary team of scientists across Merck Research Laboratories. The position will be based at the Rahway, NJ site. The postdoctoral fellow will have the opportunity to conceive of and carry out research into protein glycosylation, including strategies to control glycan structure at the single-monosaccharide level and study the effect of altered glycosylation on activity and stability of glycoproteins. The laboratory tools used in this research will include glycosylation enzymes, liquid chromatography, high resolution mass spectrometry, light scattering, circular dichroism, enzyme activity/protein binding assays, and other tools for biophysical characterization. The focus will be on 1) developing a platform for fundamental control of protein glycosylation and 2) using the platform to study altered glycosylation on enzymes and therapeutic proteins.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Developing an enzymatic platform to control protein glycosylation.
  • Characterizing altered glycosylation with a suite of bioanalytical measurement strategies.
  • Probing the impact of altered glycosylation on protein higher order structure, stability and in vitro activity.



Education Minimum Requirement: 

  • A PhD with less than (3) years of postdoctoral experience OR graduating with a PhD by summer of 2019. 
Required Experience and Skills: 

  • Track record of driving scientific publication.
  • High Resolution Mass Spectrometry – MALDI, ESI.
  • Liquid Chromatography – HILIC, Reversed-phase, Ion Exchange, Size Exclusion.
  • Glycan MS data interpretation.
  • Enzymatic digestion of proteins.

Preferred Experience and Skills:

  • Protein MS data interpretation (top-down and bottom-up).
  • Multi-angle light scattering (static light scattering).
  • Dynamic light scattering.
  • Circular dichroism.
  • Enzyme activity assays.
