Job Description

General Description:

Responsible for developing, implementing, and maintaining methods, operation sequence and processes in the fabrication of parts, components, sub-assemblies and final assemblies.


  • Develops, evaluates and improves manufacturing methods
  • Determines the processes, identifies the materials and supplies to be used, and designs and builds appropriate fixtures necessary for efficient and cost effective manufacturing
  • Establishes bills of material, manufacturing routings, machine burdens, and new work centers
  • Creates assembly instructions for new products to be manufactured
  • Establishes customer and internal engineering change orders (ECOs), processes and incorporates the changes, and insures changes become effective
  • Establishes the processes and routings to handle discrepant material, returned products (RMAs), and internal jobs to be reworked
  • Studies and records time, motion, methods and speed involved in performance of production and other worker operations to establish standard production rates and to improve efficiencies
  • Institutes changes in the production processes
  • Performs engineering activities in compliance with established company and manufacturing standards, engineering principles, customer requirements, and related specifications
  • Confers with customers and engineering staff concerning product design and tooling to insure efficient production methods
  • Confers with vendors to determine part specifications and recommends the purchase of equipment and materials used in manufacturing and production
  • Confers with management, engineering, and other staff regarding manufacturing capabilities, production schedules, and other considerations to facilitate production processes
  • Performs engineering work related to planning, devising or adapting methods to improve manufacturing
  • Examines equipment, processes, operations and assembly to determine improvements
  • Responsible for implementing changes and monitoring operational standards
  • Propose estimates for staffing, production times, costs of necessary tooling and equipment
  • Provides timely, accurate and competitive estimate inputs, based on modeling standards, for production labor and NRE
  • Develops work instructions and process steps
  • Other Duties as Assigned

Education/Experience Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in an engineering discipline preferred. Experience may be substituted for education
  • 5-8 years' experience in electrical/ electronic manufacturing
  • Strong knowledge of electronics manufacturing
  • Strong cable assembly and system integration experience in accordance with IPC-620/ IPC-610
  • IPC-620 and IPC-610 certification a plus
  • Strong knowledge of soldering techniques in accordance with J-STD-001: Space addendum a plus
  • Six Sigma Green Belt a plus
  • Must be able to communicate with all levels of frontline and management
  • Ability to prioritize multiple projects
  • Working knowledge of SMT, selective solder and wave soldering
  • Proficient with MS Office suite
  • 5S and LEAN manufacturing techniques

  • Must be able to walk and stand on level and/or inclined surfaces for certain periods throughout the day.

  • Must be able to crouch, crawl, grasp or handle objects, use finger dexterity, bend elbow/knee and reach above/below shoulders.
  • May be required to lift up to 25 pounds and carry for short distances.
  • Must be able to distinguish color and judge three-dimensional depth.
  • Normally works in an office setting with controlled temperature.
