The Data Associate is a part of the Global Research Monitoring and Evaluation (GO RM&E) team. The GO RM&E Team is responsible for a range of internal and external RM&E functions, including planning and executing global RM&E strategies to ensure that the implementation and effectiveness of our programs are being measured and reported, providing technical assistance to Room to Read Country Offices (COs), collaborating across Room to Read teams to ensure accountability and learning at Room to Read, and representing Room to Read in external forums relevant to our programmatic areas.
The Data Associate’s primary responsibilities will include communication of RM&E results and support to the Global RM&E Team as well as to the local in-country teams, with a primary focus on global monitoring activities and knowledge management.
This position is based in San Francisco, CA at Room to Read’s global headquarters.
Duties & Responsibilities:
Communication of RM&E Results:
Serve as primary point-of-contact for providing RM&E information to support grant proposals and related reporting
Collaborate with the GO RM&E and Marketing & Communications teams to manage communication of RM&E results through external publications such as public reports, blog posts, and the Room to Read website
Manage production of the annual internal Global Indicators Report, including leading the annual reflection process with country office staff, compiling and analyzing data, and writing up the final report
Identify and curate internal reports and research findings for wider public sharing to further Room to Read’s thought leadership objectives
Develop effective templates, dashboards, and data visualizations in Excel and Tableau for internal and external audiences
Manage the Global Indicators process, including updates to the list of indicators; development of related guidance materials; coordination of data collection and entry by in-country staff; analysis of results; and reflection with relevant GO and CO staff.
Complete quarterly data quality checks and coordinate resolution of any identified issues with country staff
Take the lead in communications with Country Offices with respect to indicator development, data collection, and data quality checking, including training in-country RM&E teams on related processes
As required, manage in-country pilot testing of new indicators and measurement processes.
Support quarterly and annual analysis of program implementation monitoring data.
Collaborate with the global and country-based RM&E teams to support other global monitoring activities
Work with the International Operations team to maintain data quality and integrity of Room to Read’s SalesForce-based global program database.
Lead the development and implementation of a knowledge, document and data management strategy for RM&E.
Curate GO and CO RM&E products and coordinate publication with Marketing & Communications team.
Organize and maintain compendiums of evaluation reports.
Support global research and evaluation activities, including providing support to proposal development, instrument design, budgeting, work planning contractor selection/management, analysis, and reporting.
Other duties as necessary.
Bachelor’s Degree in a related field (such as education, international development, statistics, gender studies, or other subject concerned with Room to Read’s vision and mission)
A minimum of 3-5 years of related professional experience
Experience and/or technical competence in relevant areas which may include:research, monitoring and evaluation, international education, student assessments, life skills/social & emotional learning and/or programming for adolescent girls, project management, managing external consultants, living and/or working in a developing country setting
Working closely and building relationships with diverse groups of people
Strong MS Office Suite skills, with an emphasis on Excel.
Quantitative and qualitative analytical skills, ideally including experience using software packages such as SPSS and Stata
Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English
