The General Laborer position at Smithfield Specialty Foods Group is responsible for the day-to-day production duties as assigned. Responsible for adhering to all GMP's (Good Manufacturing Practices), SOP's (Standard Operating Procedures), SSOP's (Standard Sanitation Operating Procedures), Food Defense/Food Fraud, in addition to all other food safety/quality assurance audits to meet government/third-party auditors, and company regulations.
Production employees are routinely required to perform a variety of tasks that require manual material handling and the use of hand tools, machinery, and equipment. This work is physically demanding and can require the use of some or all body parts and muscle groups. Good hand-eye coordination and upper extremity motor skills are essential for most job tasks. Additional essential functions may be applicable to specific jobs.
Being able to clearly document and capture “in real time” required accurate information as it pertains to production, food safety, quality, etc. (e.g., product traceability, LOT/batch number/identification, FIFO (First In, First Out), quantities, etc.).
Maintain “Separation of Function” at all times while working with both raw and RTE (Ready-to-Eat) product (pre- & post-lethality).
Report any and all food safety issues or concerns “in real time”.
Maintain a clean and sanitary work environment before, during and after production, daily.
Routinely conduct verifications and inspections of process, cooking, and foreign matter monitoring.
Interpret customer and sales specification and apply subjective quality decisions to product (e.g., product appearance, color, texture, etc.).
Identify out of specification product by stopping the production process and/or removing product from the process as required.
