Position Overview:

This position will provide support to the Item Reduction (IR) Studies effort being conducted to assist the government supply system in meeting the requirements of the DoD Parts Control Program.  The Naval Sea Systems Center (NSLC) is tasked to review existing studies to recommend concurrence/non-concurrence, and to generate new IR studies.

  • Thorough knowledge of the Navy's 3M system and one of the Hull, Mechanical or Electrical (HM&E) specialties is necessary.  You should be very comfortable with utilizing Navy Tech Manuals, have the ability to read drawings/operational diagrams/schematics and apply them to the systems being reviewed, understand configuration management (in particular as it applies to a COSAL/APLs) and a basic understanding of the Navy's supply system (NSNs, P/Ns, etc.). 
  • The Navy Rate skill sets that are best suited for this position are: Machinist's Mate, Electrician's Mate, Engineman and Boiler Tech or a Mechanical Engineer with Navy HM&E systems experience.
  • Typical Fit for Duties Performed while on Active Duty:  3M Coordinator, Departmental 3M Coordinator, Leading Petty Officer.

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Strong technical understanding of at least one of the shipboard HM&E systems specialties is MANDATORY for this position unless you are a Mechanical Engineer with Navy HM&E systems experience.
  • Ability to research technical documentation through Tech Manuals, Blueprints, Drawings, COSALs, APLs, and related/supporting systems/documentation in order to make recommendations regarding the similarity/difference of two (or more) items of supply. 
    • That is, do these multiple items of supply (different NSNs) actually perform the same technical function? 
    • Can/should these NSNs be combined into one with multiple part numbers from multiple manufactures simply assigned the same NSN?  

 POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

  • United States Citizenship
  • An Active Secret Clearance
  • A minimum of a High School Diploma or equivalent
  • A minimum of ten plus (10+) years’ experience in shipboard repair/design/configuration management of systems included in the HM&E COSAL.
  • Must have a valid United States Driver’s License
  • Must be able to pass a background investigation and drug screen as a condition of employment
  • Proficient with MS Office Suite
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Excellent customer service skills
