As a Legal Editor in LRP's Education Group you will play a key role in LRP's website, specialedconnection.com, and in its publications, keeping legal and non-legal subscribers up-to-date on important court decisions and administrative rulings involving both general education and special education law. Daily you will summarize legal decisions and agency guidance in a format and style designed to convey the impact of the decision to the reader without using legalese. You'll also prepare legal compliance features for the website as assigned by your manager in addition to occasionally editing and writing books, pamphlets, and e-learning courses for the K-12 audience. This is a full-time position based in our Palm Beach Gardens, FL office.
Read, analyze and concisely summarize cases from the federal courts
Read, analyze and concisely summarize cases from the state courts and administrative offices
Read, analyze and concisely summarize federal agency guidance
Produce legal compliance features for specialedconnection.com
Select cases daily for inclusion in the database
Communicate and work cooperatively with other education editors and correspondents
Follow LRP Publications' style guidelines and update Excel tracking spreadsheets
Proofread and spell-check your work
Respond quickly and efficiently to internal and external customer inquiries, working with your manager, the editorial directors, and customer service
JD Degree from accredited law school required
Proven ability to read and efficiently summarize case law
Proficiency with MS Word, Outlook, and Excel
Minimum of 1 year experience with writing case summaries and legal research in conformance with AP and Bluebook
Strong time management skills and the ability to meet deadlines
Strong organizational skills with the ability to multi-task
Strong teamwork ability and communication skills
