Job Description

The American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP), the nation’s leading advocacy organization for children’s healthcare, seeks a detail-oriented team-player to manage the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC)-funded cooperative agreement activities related to providing outreach and training to pediatric offices on immunization issues. This position will disseminate immunization educational materials to pediatricians and form partnerships; represent the project in a staff liaison capacity within and outside of the AAP; integrate activities with related efforts of other organizations; provide support for other programs or grants that improve immunization rates of practices, particularly those awards not specific to childhood immunization.

Some tasks include:
1. Monitor and support AAP chapters and practices as they implement changes to improve immunization rates under cooperative agreement activities, ensuring timely and efficient achievement of program objectives.
2. Provide administrative support to the agreement’s expert team and other relevant advisory groups; follow-up on relevant action items.
3. Identify and oversee consultants; execute and oversee subcontracts necessary to complete program activities.
4. Develop and disseminate tools and resources for cooperative agreement activities.
5. Establish and maintain relationships with CDC project officers and other key partners related to immunization.
6. Promote the availability of resources around cooperative agreement topics via Web pages, social media, and other communication channels both internal and external to the AAP.
7. Attend national meetings and work closely with the CDC and other groups to promote national collaboration and avoid duplication of efforts.
8. Develop and monitor the program budget and prepare reports, continuation applications, and other required federal documents.
9. Oversee evaluation of program activities and assessment of overall effectiveness of the program. Provide analysis of issues related to cooperative agreement activities.

Qualifications include:
1. Bachelor’s degree in health administration, public health, nursing, or a related discipline or an equivalent combination of relevant education and work experience required.
2. Two to three years’ experience in program coordination/management required, preferably in the public health or child health field.
3. Experience in immunization initiatives and working with pediatricians highly desired. Community outreach, grants management, and program evaluation experience helpful.
4. Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills required, as well as proficiency with MS Office. Ability to handle heavy workload, prioritize, work independently, manage multiple projects simultaneously, and effectively collaborate with various internal and external constituents essential. Some travel and weekend work required.
