Job Description

1.   SUMMARY

The Director of Quality Assurance provides strategic direction for company-wide product quality programs, setting the standard for expectations on product specifications and quality in accordance with ISO 9001 standards and company policy. This role is responsible for challenging current practices to improve quality and company profitability. The Director of Quality Assurance will develop strategies in collaboration with the business and operations team and will develop and drive policies, procedures, and metrics to reach the desired goals. This position is expected to provide influential direction and to advise the executive leadership team on industry best practices and trends. This position reports directly to the CEO

2.    PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

·         Responsible for company-wide direction, development and implementation of quality strategies in support of overall business goals
·         Develops and implements policies and procedures related to Good Manufacturing Processes and quality standards, etc., throughout the company; Evaluates and approves new processes and equipment to meet quality standards; Provides recommendations and advice for improvements to existing policies, procedures, and equipment
·         Utilizes, integrates, and interprets data to assist organization in its improvement efforts and promotes optimal customer outcomes; Works collaboratively with senior management to develop strategic quality initiatives
·         Provides technical leadership, direction, and consultation across all levels of the organization – from executive level to plant teams – to assure quality standards are maintained
·         Ensures responsibility for organizational wide occurrence reporting system; Analyzes and reports trends and identifies appropriate interventions to reduce risk and liability to the organization
·         Directs customer complaint investigations, identifies root cause, and provides customer response based on findings
·         Develops and implements educational programs for employees and management on quality programs, tracking tools and techniques (e.g., SPC, FMEA), analysis of risk assessment, historical and concurrent occurrences, claims data, and national trends
·         Directs all Quality Department functions as follows:
  • Quality Assurance
  • Implementation of product specifications
  • Directing and participating in both internal and external audits
  • Interaction with production, engineering, operations, order processing, customers, and other individuals or groups as needed to assure Schletter’s mission is properly communicated in a professional and productive manner
  • Liaison with R&D for the development and understanding of product specifications
  • Lead and mentor team members to encourage professional growth

·         Directs the budgets and costs associated with department functions; Actively monitors budget and evaluates expenditures on a regular basis; Initiates recommendations to ensure department is operating within budget
·         Provides daily direction and leadership to Quality Department team members at all Company locations; Manages staff performance through regular review, real time feedback, and performance planning; Actively coaches and mentors staff; Conducts performance reviews and makes decisions regarding promotions and salary adjustments; Tracks daily time and attendance of Quality team members and coordinates overtime scheduling; Makes recommendations for manpower needs including involvement in recruitment and selection process
 


Job Requirements:

1.   KNOWLEDGE AND SKILL REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Quality Control, or related field AND 5+ years of quality control management experience in a manufacturing environment
  • Manufacturing and Operations experience in metal manufacturing highly preferred
  • Substantial and proven experience of business strategy development and advising senior leaders on strategic ideas required
  • Solid understanding of organizational dynamics, business processes, and policies required
  • Certification in Lean Six Sigma at the Black Belt level or greater is highly desired
  • Familiarity and experience with process capability, statistical process control, and strong project management skills required
  • Must have a history of outstanding customer service focus, a sense of urgency for change and improvement, and a balanced approach to risk taking and getting results
  • Strong leadership skills and demonstrated commitment to employee involvement, participative management, and continuous improvement required
  • Strong and effective communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Ability to follow and issue verbal and written instructions
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and SAP required
  • Knowledge of metal stamping, punching, and sawing highly desired
  • Knowledge of machines and tools, including their designs, uses, repair, and maintenance
  • Knowledge of measurement instruments
  • CAD experience preferred, preferably with Inventor
  • Great attention to detail; Strong organizational and time management skills
  • Knowledge of raw materials, production processes and quality control
  • Familiarity with the metric system and mechanical aptitude highly preferred
  • Proven measurement and mathematical skills, including fraction/decimal conversions and arithmetic
·         Ability to prioritize and to meet tight deadlines in an environment of competing priorities with a degree of autonomy and integrity
·         Self-motivated and ability to work without constant supervision
·         Ability to work independently and with a team in a fast-paced and high volume environment with emphasis on accuracy and timeliness
·         Strong team player who can incorporate input from others and can generate consensus through inclusion
