POSITION SUMMARY
The Logistics Specialist is responsible for performing and controlling a combination of manual or automated tasks necessary for the receipt, storage, and shipment of products. This role includes the handling of hazardous materials (HAZMAT) and ensuring compliance with safety regulations. The specialist ensures the efficient flow of products from the point of product request to final delivery. Additionally, the Logistics Specialist is tasked with delivering customer orders both locally and regionally to support various contracts and performance work statements.

 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES/ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS INCLUDE

  • Receive all merchandise into the warehouse, ensuring that accompanying paperwork is accurate, including hazardous materials.
  • Load and unload trucks with a forklift and move merchandise to appropriate storage areas, ensuring proper chemical segregation and compliance with hazardous material requirements.
  • Release quantities of merchandise to the sales floor and perform pulls and put-aways of hazardous materials from military supply warehouse as required.
  • Order and receive hazmat property in EESOH-MIS, including processing issue transactions.
  • Package, label, and ship all orders, adhering to safety regulations concerning hazardous materials.
  • Maintain an organized file of purchase orders to be received and monitor the shelf life of hazardous materials, extending life as necessary according to directives.
  • Check incoming merchandise for quantity, description, and damage; report discrepancies to the responsible vendor and Store Manager.
  • Complete receiving reports, attach to P.O. copy from file, and forward to Purchasing.
  • Inventory internet orders according to packing list and resolve discrepancies with vendors.
  • Process returns through vendors and internet order website and coordinate turn-in/disposal of expired/unserviceable hazmat.
  • Call trucking companies to arrange pick-up of shipment and delivery of material and hazmat.
  • Maintain accurate, manual inventory records, including detailed tracking of HAZMAT items using systems like SBSS, ESS, EMIS, and EESOH-MIS.
  • Segregate any defective materials in the “Merchandise Hold Area” and ensure good housekeeping and safety in the warehouse at all times.
  • Serve as the HAZMAT systems administrator to manage and update HAZMAT inventory data.
  • Implement and maintain adherence to base regulations and operating instructions and procedures involving hazardous material requirements and processes in accordance with Federal, State, and military regulations, guidelines, and instructions.
  • Participate in HAZMAT training and conduct hazardous material compliance assessments to ensure compliance.
  • Perform all assigned tasks in a safe manner, maintaining a clean, safe, and neat work environment at all times.
  • Flexibility to perform other duties as assigned.

Job Requirements

Education: High school diploma or GED equivalent required.

Experience: 5 to 7 years previous experience in warehouse and delivery driver positions preferred.

Knowledge/Skills:

  • Proficient knowledge in math and computer skills.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills; ability to communicate with other personnel concerning operation, safety and overall performance of equipment and procedures.
  • Ability to work independently with periodic consultation and direction.
  • Good organization and attention to details.
  • Ability to drive a forklift truck and delivery vehicle and maintain a current valid state driver’s license and driving record.

 

Licenses/Certifications:

  • Current driver’s license and driving record in good standing required.
  • Must maintain a current forklift certification.
  • Ability to successfully complete required DOT driver’s certification and successfully complete DOT physical and drug screen per DOT regulations.
