Job Description

Southwest Minnesota State University's Undergraduate Social Work program is hiring two full time fixed-term positions that will be responsible to teach four courses each semester. These positions will teach only online asynchronous courses and/or sections for the program. In order to support students by having a deeper knowledge of the university, to foster collaboration and engagement with fellow faculty and the broader university community, and to be able to

represent the University fully and accurately, these positions require a periodic presence on campus. These days will include pre-term duty days in August and January, commencement at the end of spring semester, and any accreditation-related site visit days, with other days as determined in consultation with the program and the Dean. Faculty in these positions will be expected to participate virtually in program meetings and other committee/service work and advising when not present on campus. The travel to and from campus will be the responsibility of the faculty member.

It will be expected that the person in this position teach the components of the generalist social work curriculum at SMSU. The teaching load for this position will be twelve credits each semester with all courses and/or sections taught fully online asynchronously. The position will teach any of the social work courses currently offered with a potential to add an elective course if time and numbers in the program allow. The position will also be able to teach an online section of LEP 101 (first year seminar course) if needed and course load allowed.

The position is responsible for both academic and professional advising as outlined by the social work program in accreditation documentation for the Council on Social Work Education (CSWE).

The candidate for this position will need to hold a Master's Degree in Social Work (as required by SWE) from an accredited school of social work, have two-years of post MSW practice, and an understanding of online education. A PhD in a human service related field or a Doctorate in Social Work will be preferred as will previous teaching experience at the college level. Applicants will

need to have a social work license or be eligible to obtain one when they begin. The SMSU Social Work Program strongly desires to have a diverse program both in students and faculty so applicants from traditionally under-represented communities are strongly encouraged to apply. Minimum Qualifications
  • Master's Degree in Social Work from a CSWE accredited university
  • Two years of post MSW work experience
  • Demonstrated commitment or proven strategies for fostering a diverse and inclusive environment
  • Demonstrated ability or proven strategies to teach and work with persons from diverse backgrounds
  • Documented teaching experience at the college level
  • Experience with online course delivery and online delivery technologies
  • Demonstrated commitment to the NASW Code of Ethics
  • Be licensed as a social worker or be able to obtain license

  • Terminal degree in human services profession (Ph.D., DSW, or other terminal degree)
