The Position:

AMEWAS is seeking a highly motivated and talented Aviation Operational Data Analyst (Research Specialist)-Senior to support Battlespace Modeling & Simulation. The salary range of this position is $115,000.00-$150,000.00, and is commensurate with experience. This position is not eligible for remote work; on-site support is required.

Position Background:

The Modeling & Simulation Enterprise Applications (MSEA) product suite supports modeling and simulation (M&S) environments; trainer systems; test and evaluation (T&E); analysis; live, virtual and constructive (LVC); research and development (R&D) activities for DoD agencies and its international partners.  All products are government owned, developed and managed.  The Architecture Management Integration Environment (AMIE) is a cross-platform middleware that provides an interface abstraction, collection of libraries, and a set of tools that promote reusability of direct interface protocol implementations.

The MSEA Branch is currently seeking a Senior Research Specialist – Aviation Operational Data Analyst for our Analysis and Reporting Tool (ART) engineering and analysis team.  Candidates will join a strong team providing real time data analysis to support aviation operations and operational test at the Joint Simulation Environment (JSE), Patuxent River, MD and other elite aviator training facilities.

Analysts support decision-makers by quantifying naval warfighting capabilities and limitations under realistic employment conditions; developing empirical or theoretical estimates for the performance of fleet systems and platforms; and developing creative solutions to complex tactical and force design challenges.

A typical day as an Aviation Operational Data Analyst (Research Specialist)-Senior may include:

• Applies standard research methodologies to gather, process, and analyzes data
• Uses relevant database software to effectively organize/present data and generate reports
• Generates compelling visualizations of quantitative datasets
• Develops institutional knowledge of the mission of MSEA, including the team’s major customers
• Participates in meetings with the team
• Supports preparations for customer interactions
• Presents and summarizes data effectively in oral and written communication

Must-haves:

• MS Degree in Scientific Discipline: Data Science, Computer Science, Engineering, Information Technology, Mathematics, Physics or equivalent experience
• 10 years of relevant work experience
• Experience with data collection and metrics creation
• Experience with programming (R, Python), statistics, SQL, data visualization and other data analysis fundamentals
• Experience analyzing, interpreting, summarizing and presenting data effectively
• Demonstrated knowledge applying advanced principles, theories and concepts to solve uniquely complex problems
• The ability to conceptualize and develop solutions, formulate problem statements and develop analysis methods and approaches
• Excellent communication skills, both oral and written
• Experience packaging analytic results in report format
• Experience developing and presenting oral briefings
• Experience interacting and advising senior levels of leadership
• The ability to work in an unstructured environment
• The ability to obtain and maintain a DoD Secret Security Clearance

Desired Skills:

• PhD
• Experience with supporting Special Access Program (SAP) efforts
• Aviation experience

Physical environment and working conditions:

The employee may be required to travel short distances to offices/conference rooms and buildings on site.  In some occasions, the employee may be required to report to offices or buildings near the work site. In rare occasions, overnight travel may be required.
