Team (Project) Introduction

9th Way Insignia Technology is looking for a Senior Technical Writer to join our team to assist in providing Information Technology Program Management and technical support (i.e., development, operations and maintenance) to the Department of Veterans Affairs, Benefits and Memorial Services (BAM) Portfolio. BAM provides high quality, effective, and efficient Information Technology (IT) services to those responsible for providing care to the Veterans at the point-of-care as well as throughout all points of the Veterans' health care in an effective, timely and compassionate manner. VA depends on Information Management/Information Technology (IM/IT) systems to meet mission goals, and deliver world-class, innovative systems that ensure reliable, secure, and seamless delivery of benefits and services directly to Veterans and their families. The BAM serves the Veterans Benefits Administration, the Board of Veterans Appeals, and the National Cemetery Administration to develop and manage advanced technology solutions.

Functional Job (LCAT) Information:

A Senior Technical Writer writes technical materials, such as equipment manuals, appendices, or operating and maintenance instructions. A Senior Technical Writer plays a vital role in creating and maintaining technical documentation for our products and services. Responsibilities include working closely with subject matter experts to gather information, writing clear and concise technical documents, and ensuring documentation accuracy and usability for our customers and internal teams.

Professional Level Information

A Senior Technical Writer aligns as a Sr. Consultant within Insignia Technology. A Sr Consultant completes tasks and projects of moderate scope and complexity. A Sr. Consultant exercises the best judgement and problem-solving skills within defined guidelines and practices to determine appropriate action to execute assignments. Sr. Consultant will also provide guidance and/or lead on tasks/projects.


  • Collaborate with subject matter experts (SMEs) to gather information and understand technical concepts related to products, processes, and systems.

  • Create and update technical documentation, including user manuals, installation guides, API documentation, release notes, and troubleshooting guides.

  • Organize and structure complex technical information into clear, concise, and user-friendly content for various audiences.

  • Ensure documentation adheres to company style guides, templates, and standards for clarity, consistency, and branding.

  • Review and edit documentation for grammar, punctuation, and technical accuracy, incorporating feedback from stakeholders and SMEs.

  • Work with cross-functional teams, such as product managers, developers, and quality assurance engineers, to gather information and validate technical content.

  • Collaborate with localization teams to translate and adapt documentation for international audiences, ensuring linguistic and cultural accuracy.

  • Maintain document version control, update content as needed for product releases or changes, and manage documentation repositories or knowledge bases.

  • Ability to work independently, prioritize tasks effectively, and collaborate with cross-functional teams in a fast-paced environment.

  • Research and stay updated on industry trends, technologies, and best practices in technical writing and documentation tools.

  • Assist in creating visual aids such as diagrams, screenshots, and videos to enhance the clarity and effectiveness of technical documentation.


  • Bachelor's degree in English, Technical Writing, Computer Science, or a related field (or equivalent work experience).

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain complex technical concepts clearly and understandably.

  • Proficiency in technical writing tools such as Microsoft Word, Adobe FrameMaker, MadCap Flare, or similar documentation software.

  • Familiarity with markup languages such as XML, HTML, and Markdown is a plus.

  • Attention to detail and a commitment to producing high-quality, accurate documentation within established timelines.

  • Portfolio showcasing sample technical writing projects or documentation is advantageous.

  • Eagerness to learn and grow in the field of technical writing, with a proactive attitude towards skill development and continuous improvement.


  • Experience with version control systems (e.g., Git) and content management systems (CMS) for documentation is desirable.

  • Knowledge of software development processes, APIs, or cloud technologies is a plus but not required.

Salary Range:
The salary range for this position is $60,070 - $102,161

Additional factors considered in extending an offer include (but are not limited to) responsibilities of the job, education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities, as well as internal equity, alignment with market data, applicable bargaining agreement (if any), or other law.
